The ASCA National Model reflects a comprehensive approach to the design, implementation and evaluation of a school counseling program that improves student success. The publication defines the school counselor's role in implementation of a program based on the principles of leadership, advocacy, collaboration and systemic change and provides step-by-step tools to build each component of the program including foundation, management, delivery and accountability. This third edition has been revised to reflect current education practices and enhanced to include additional templates that will assist school counselors in developing an exemplary school counseling program.
The ASCA national model is a great framework to build a comprehensive school counseling program that allows counselors to better serve all students. This book includes lots of tools for every day use.
Every school counselor should read this book once because we need to be able to advocate for our profession appropriately. I read this as part of one of the ASCAU courses but even though it is written quite dull I was glad to have read it.
I wish I would have read this in class because it would have made a world of sense! Our professor jumped around a lot in explaining this so I was really confused and overwhelmed about the whole thing. He was also using the second edition in the beginning because that is what he knew. I think this is a good framework for school counselors to follow and I like the changes that were made to the 3rd edition.
