Catholic Superhero This is the first in the Catholic Joe series. Lieutenant General Joseph Salvatore, Husband and Father of a large family, is a man’s man. "I loved it!!! Faith, Family, Romance, Adventure…it has it all! A+++ I know it was meant for men, but women will love it to!" Joan T.
I kept hearing about this story before I picked it up. I had heard so many good things; I was worried I would be disappointed because of the hype. That concern was unfounded. I absolutely loved this novel and look forward to future stories in the series. While reading this I could not help by think about the Pius Man series and St Tommy NYPD series by Declan Finn. The description of this story states:
“This is the first in the Catholic Joe series. Lieutenant General Joseph Salvatore, Husband and Father of a large family, is a man’s man. The pace of this story ebbs and flows. But it does build towards a clear climax. There is some serious action both spiritual and with weapons. The story is a high octane thriller. It is a story about faith, family, and faithfulness to traditional Catholic teachings. It is a story about changing society by fortifying the family.
The novel represents one man who has built up a wide network of friends and family who know and trust each other. He has several circles of influence; the military, governmental agents across agencies, priests and pastors at all level of the clergy. He is not willing to back down but has taken precautions to protect his family. He is set on standing up against a growing woke agenda; and also corruption within the hierarchy of the church. He knows when to ask for help, and he listens to advice from his brothers in arms, from priests and from his wife. He is using technology to trace and make links and establish evidence as needed. And he knows when to step away from the technology so that things will be private.
The writing for a first novel is exceptional. The characters are well developed and crafted. In some ways it reads like a Reacher novel or Jason Bourne but where Catholicism and living his faith is central to his character. The main difference is Joe Catholic knows he cannot do it on his own, he turns to his friends, and seeks heavenly help.
I will be honest There were times while reading this I stopped and prayed. I prayed for friends and family. I prayed for the state of our world. The main character mentions box of prayer books at the back of a parish and he picks up one. I asked the author and he said it is the Daily Prayers to Save America prayer book, I picked up the digital copy and am currently praying my way through it.
This story is a great example of Catholic fiction. Overall an impressive first novel that leaves you desperate to read about what happens next. I cannot wait to see where the story will go. I can easily recommend this book. SO pick it up and give it a try I am certain you will appreciate the story.
The story and character development both have the making of a future series on the virtues and trials of true Christian manhood. I hope to read more on Catholic Joe in the future both in sequel and possibly prequel.
A lifetime in the making. Serious, fun, adventure.
First, in total disclosure, I know Steve, the author. I know so much of this book is a compilation of things on his heart that he just had to get out. I envy that the spirit found him a path to do so. To the reader, this is all Steve and it is quite enjoyable. With every deeply spiritual trait is a dry and not quite irreverent humor - the kind of spiritual humor you can only have when you fully have that relationship and know God can take a joke. I heard an interview with Steve where the host said it was like a Catholic Jack Reacher. Catholic Joe is - but Catholic Joe is also much more vulnerable and real. This book really is about the family and it's about waking up the Church leadership to drop the politics and to take a stand. Steve reminds us, the lay Catholic man, that we must be "the new patriot" who is willing to stand in the gap to protect the family, the Church, and (for as the family goes...) the world. I would first recommend this book to any Catholic man who has a calling, likes adventure, and who has a good sense of humor. From there, I recommend it to anyone else and encourage you to just enjoy it - and if you happen to learn something along the way, all the better.
This is on whole a great story and one needed in these times. Regardless of you religious choice you will find it thought provoking which is a good thing. From my perspective though it does enact one great sin. It totally ignores the great Protestant reformation. The Catholic church is ethically and morally correct but tied to artificial dogma and administrative overhead that is the result of man's desire for power and not true biblical teachings. IE. The Catholic church became the Caesar in "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's". It lost focus on the spiritual essence and focus on the individual relationship that is the core of the new testament. When focused on faith and spirit there is NO difference between catholic and protestant in terms of spiritual and ethical goals, only different paths to the same end.
Catholic Joe Superhero was to me, a woman, a surprising and thoroughly enjoyable read. It combined many of the truths of the Catholic faith lived out in the life of one heroic man…It was definitely a page turner and I couldn’t put it down. For a first attempt novel…I think the author did an amazing job. Final comment…anyone paying attention today will recognize the truth of our times in this so-called fiction novel. Lenore E
Definitely an exciting read. Though this book is geared towards men, I really enjoyed it, too. Steve Thomas has a heart to show the average faithful Catholic in the pew how he can change the Church, and change the world. Now that I’m finished, I’m going to send my copy to Marcus Luttrell, who is married to my best friend’s daughter, and who in recent years converted to Catholicism and is active in his church. He is who I thought of when I read Catholic Joe.
It's thought provoking and inspiring to remain fearless when you stand up for the truth. One does not have to be a Christian to read this, but once you start it, it wouldn't surprise me if you found yourself venturing toward a Christian life style. It is so incredible to discover the beautiful teachings of the Catholic Church.
Loved this book! Will look for more by this author!!
Addresses relevant Catholic issues inside the Church; discusses practical steps to "fix" Catholic family life -- all within the confines of an exciting novel. Is Joe a little "over-the-top" as hero -- absolutely! -- Still, his weaknesses and past errors are shown as well.
Unfortunately as bad as I thought it might be. I had a slither of hope it might be fun AND well written. Alas it's a book for 10 year olds. I mean if it is a book for kids, let me know and I'll change it to 3 stars.
This book was action packed and full of Catholic perspective as the title suggests. It may be a little long in that many moral issues are addressed in the one overarching story. It was a bit much on the ultra-conservative perspective for my comfort. However, the story itself was fantastic. The author’s own “call to arms” may have affected my overall view of this perspective. I recommend this book and I will definitely read the next book in this series when it comes out.
