I have admired this quilter's work as seen in other books. I particularly remember a giant cabbage that was gorgeous!
I am an improvisational quilter who pieces as opposed to applique, so this quilter appeals to me.
Where we branch off is that I make sturdy quilts to be used, whereas I am seeing these as art quilts.
Never the less, this book was fascinating! And I see that quilters go off in all directions, so who is to say I won't grow into an art quilter!
If I do, this will be my first go-to book. It has amazing instructions.

This book answers my need to learn to piece art quilts together! It is full of excellent piecing methods and I plan to get it back and practice the blocks and do illustrations.

I am so excited about this book that I am close to wordless when it comes to writing a review. The author's quilts are absolutely stunning. As a beginning quilter, I have all kinds of respect and awe for how Ruth B. McDowell has created completely original ideas for quilts and then accomplished bringing them to life with fabric.

She goes into great detail about her techniques for piecing all kinds of odd shapes and even gives the reader several patterns with specific details for practicing her method of piecing. She also gives insight into her design process, and gives you some patterns to work with to begin to understand it on your own.

A really excellent look into an artist's process and very nice workbook for learning a new quilting technique.
