This book was very innovative in that it gave me ideas for entertaining, training, and bonding with my patagonian conure. I also like that the beginning of the book gives an overview of many different conure sub-species. The only reason I decided not to give this book 5 or 4 stars is because it is 12 years old, and therefore very dated in the information provided about diet and light source. Many advancements regarding human knowledge of avian/parrot intelligence and health have been made in the last decade and we know now that parrot diets should consist mainly of pellets and fresh fruits/veggies. Cuttlebone is not a necessity, and feeding your parrot a diet that consists largely of millet spray or seeds would be a very unhealthy/unsatisfying diet for your loved companion bird. This book does a great job of emphasizing how intelligent parrots are and therefore their need for stimulation and companionship is optimal, but this book does not elucidate on the importance of full spectrum lighting so that your pet can see/think to his/her full potential. Obviously, we didn't know these things about conures 12 years ago, so it wouldn't be feasible to expect information about it here, but there are more recent publications out there that have all this information, and would therefore be a more preferential read than this one.
