Burden of Faete

Rate this book
The line between triumph and tragedy is as fragile as a twist of faete.
Ryanne’s quest to unearth the elusive spark of creation within Titus that holds the fae’s salvation isn’t going exactly as planned. After all Ryanne wasn’t supposed to fall for the pirate. Her fae mentors warned her she could lose her humanity if she get too close to the bradaís, eternal foes of the fae. But how do they expect her to complete her mission without getting too involved? It would be so much easier if Titus didn’t make her feel safe … and excited.

Titus seeks solace in Ryanne’s arms, the one person who can soothe his darkness within. Haunted by his past, he is determined to remain hidden, away from the relentless fae and the ruthless bradaís alike. Confronting either could spell disaster for the fragile peace he's found with Ryanne.

Ryanne finds herself ensnared in a deadly game of fae and bradaís. The conflict threatens to crush her spirit and twist her fate with a darkness that is beyond anything she’s encountered before. Can she conquer her fears and stand against the most powerful of the bradaís while still protecting her beloved fae? After all, she is no longer caílin—a child to the fae.

Yet, it seems she may no longer be entirely human either.

I'm Ligia de Wit, author of the Bradaís Pledge series—a fantasy romance adventure with a unique twist on pirates and a touch of twisted Peter Pan vibes.

Writing in two languages has been both a challenge and a rewarding journey, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you love characters who are strong in more than just a physical sense—who face their fears, embrace their vulnerabilities, and carve out their place in the world—then you're in the right place. That’s my vibe: crafting powerful women who fight for themselves in the heart of fantasy.

Beyond writing, I love getting lost in a good book, watching movies, indulging in delicious meals, exploring new cities, hiking through forests, and—when the mood strikes—acting like a total goof at theme parks. I’m a kid at heart, and I own it!

Come join me in my world of adventure, romance, and just the right amount of magic.

This enticing sequel in the Bradaís Pledge series is just as incredible as the first book! With more twists and turns (some of which I could never have anticipated), higher stakes and even more action than ever before, this will have you at the edge of your seat. The butterflies do be yelling huzzah! 🩵
“I love you.”
“I don’t know what that is, Ryanne. I don’t understand.”
“That’s okay; I do.” She took my hand and placed it on her chest. “I love you,” she repeated, smiling.

[ Contains some spoilers ]

PLOT SUMMARY
Continuing the events from Touch of Faete , 22-year-old Ryanne Kelly, a human imbued with fae powers that predict the future, has been tasked by the fae queen to bridge the rift between fae and bradaís. She endeavours to do so with Titus Aodhán Doyle an immortal pirate/bradaí who abducted her in Book 1 and, despite his thirst for killing and gold, appears not to be as corrupt as his kin and has developed a fondness for Ryanne. Finding and activating the spark within Titus would sever the hold the evil god-like being Anord has on the bradaís.

Titus has just gained Ryanne’s trust and she is worried what will happen if he finds out she has been using him to gain information about bradaís for her mission. But there are bigger fish to fry, to coin the proverbial phrase, because someone is on their tails. Someone who Titus dreads the most: Captain Edward, the Alpha, most ruthless and powerful of all bradaís – even Titus. So powerful in fact that he is the only one with the ability to kill his own kind.

Edward is on a mission: with every bradaí killed, he absorbs their power. He desires above all Titus’ power, but he needs Titus’ name given to him by Anord to do so (Aodhán). Titus begins to form a plan: find the leader of the Shadow People, Quintus, to learn more about his magic; find his “family”, Kara and Sergei, who abandoned him because Edward framed him for murder; gather all their strength and band together to defeat him.

However, many obstacles get in the way of their path: including Sanders (the man who wanted Ryanne for her powers in Book 1), the fae who are displeased with Titus’ escape from their realm in Book 1, the bradaís – and not to mention Edward himself. And Ryanne has yet to face her biggest fear in order to become a proper fae and enhance her powers.
I let myself be guided by my touch of fae, a power I used to dismiss, since it had appeared randomly and of no use to me.
A power used to show me snippets of a romantic pairing in the future because that was what I’d wanted.
Now I wanted to be stronger, capable to face supernatural creatures. I didn’t have the physical strength, that much was clear. But I had my fae connection, one that had been a stranger inside me but not anymore.
This is told from the first-person past-tense POV of Ryanne and Titus.

OVERALL OPINIONS
Ligia de Wit has done it again! She has a way with her characters, description and overall energy that makes you want to be swept along on the adventure. After just finishing the first book (which you should absolutely do before reading this one), I was more than ready to jump into this. The world-building is expanded on beautifully and because most of the basics we need to know are established in Book 1, there is less confusion about what is happening and more honing in on the new information – or information from Book 1 that is expanded on here.

Some of the chapters are interestingly told from Titus’ past, helping to form conclusions from the presented information and helps us better understand Titus and what has transpired between him and Edward up until now. I loved discovering more about the bradaís in this book because just when you think you have it worked out, boom! A plot twist. And then boom! Another.

As I said before in my previous review, I adore that de Wit has drawn inspiration from Celtic mythology and Irish folklore in order to produce something wholly unique. Indeed, the whole concept behind this story, of having a stereotypical pirate but with dark magical powers and immortality, is so different. The irony of course is that pirates don’t tend to live long and do very dangerous things that risk cutting their life shorter. I like this, with the exploration of a man living through centuries seeing the rise and fall of empires, gathering so much knowledge and still knowing nothing of his own kind and it takes a human with fae powers for him to truly open his eyes.

I also meant to say since it is covered in this book as well I love that the touch of fae “provoked visions since we humans were way too concerned with the future, so the fae energy woke that part of usthis is genuinely such a clever idea, because it is so true! And I liked some of the references to Peter Pan – when Ryanne first met her mentor Gallchobhair she thought he was Peter Pan hence his name being Peter. The nymphs wanting to spend time with Peter is much like the mermaids obsessing over Peter Pan. Titus has a red coat and is compared to Captain Hook.

Titus and Ryanne were my favourite parts, of course , and with her pixie friend Bricius not around as often, we have more of *those* scenes in this book – so you bet I was giggling and kicking my feet for those (or doing one of those happy silly dances that Ryanne likes/wants to do haha)! I like that not only are they working on themselves individually , Ryanne especially with her self-defence and magic (even her visions are getting more accurate), but they also find more ways of working together – but I’ll not say too much.

I am just like Ryanne, always asking loads of questions. It’s cool and cute that she has learned some of her magic when fighting from observing Titus using his dark magic. And Titus is out here making me fall in love – wanting to avoid the storm so Ryanne can sleep better, letting Ryanne have control during their first time, still possessive of her. It’s cool that he can fight with both hands.
Titus seized my chin tenderly. “Do you know that your lips are sweet? That their softness doesn’t compare to anything else?”
He caressed my lower lip with his thumb as if to print the sensation on his fingertip, making my heart flutter.
“Gold won’t kiss me back”

I’m very much looking forward to Book 3! Bring it on!

<< Positives >>
🠚 The cover is so stunning! It makes so much sense considering this book covers Titus’ story more, so there’s the sea and creatures, along with the coin bestowed upon him by Anord which plays a large part in this story. It is also fitting as Ryanne has to face her fear of drowning.
🠚 Appropriate image for each book part, with a lovely ship paragraph/section divider
🠚 The time jumps are interesting!
🠚 Plenty of plot twists to keep me guessing, wondering if even Fé Erie couldn’t be trusted.
🠚 The amount of strong women in this book is inspiring!
🠚 Any questions or information I wanted fleshed out from Book 1 were pretty much answered here.
🠚 Again, any potential plotholes in character’s behaviours or world-building elements were fine. In Chapter 5, more things were covered about the bond from Book 1 and why he chose her hand and not her arm, for example. Chapter 33 explains even more why Ryanne is needed for this quest.
🠚 A dragon is in this story! I LOVE dragons. And finally, having the dragon portal described! Worth the wait haha.
🠚 The bond between Titus and his friends/found family like Homkar, Kara and Sergei was heartwarming to see. Especially Homkar, the way Titus treats him more as a friend and lets him speak his mind, and the way Homkar approves of Ryanne. It’s lovely!
🠚 I’m glad that Peter and Titus are beginning to reach some sort of understanding.
🠚 The last few chapters of the book AHHH!

<< Negatives >>
🠚 I had hoped for more interactions between Mouse and Ryanne – don’t get me wrong, we do get some of it here, with her teaching Ryanne self-defence, which I love. But she disappears after Chapter 13, about a third of the way through the book.
🠚 In Book 1, Titus says “I will not touch you. You have my word. How will I know when it’s time? Would you give me a sign?” and Ryanne says “I’ll give you a, ‘Let’s do this, stud.’ Does that work?” – I therefore kind of expected her to say “Let’s do this, stud,” in a shared joke sort of way in this book when it finally does happen.
🠚 The comparison of The Scáil Dragún to the “USS Constitution marooned in Boston”, while excellent, I feel would have been better placed in Book 1.
🠚 I don’t think we’re ever told what Feihnum means, where it comes from, why it appears. It seems to be chord that sort of triggers her fae abilities but why is it connected to the ship usually?

FAV QUOTES
• He just pulled on his discarded black trousers and white shirt, his favorite combination, along with his knee-high black boots and red jacket. A true pirate’s life for him. A dark, *immortal* pirate life for him.
• Is fearr lúbadh ná briseadh, as an Irish saying goes. It’s better to bend than to break.
• The image of her in his arms churned my stomach, and the cabin swirled around me. I’d get her back. Whatever the cost. Even if I had to take the taigh by assault, I would. That dryshite would never have her. Never.
I couldn’t lose Ryanne, not now... I missed her, missed her flowery perfume and her arms around me. Missed every inch of her. Her lush chestnut hair and moss-green eyes that reminded me of the high seas.
I felt like a pawn, but whether I was still on the board or pushed aside, I couldn’t tell.
• His intense kisses barged into my memory, the way his lips took mine, claiming them for himself.
• The rain stopped and birds chirped sweetly above. A bright rainbow appeared on the gray sky, and I smiled—a beautiful reminder that light always conquered darkness. Heck. It was up to me to decide *my* fate, not the fae’s obscure rules.
“The sea crashes and sweeps, but there’s peace within,” I whispered in his ear. That line he’d said back in our second submersion had come unbidden and the words slipped from my lips, as if my brain knew I must say those words. His chest heaved, and his expression softened a little
Before I knew it, I was encircled in his arms, his nose touching mine. Careful not to rattle him, I caressed his back, his breath warming me. His lips searched for mine and placed a chaste kiss, a kiss that smelled of the sea. | “My pirate,” I mumbled. | “My little seer,” he croaked.
• He reached out and latched his hand on my neck, pulling me to him. Like clay, I molded my body to his and sighed against his lips. The kiss was soft and tender, like a lazy wave slapping over the sand on a hot summer day.
• A strange feeling harbored in my usual empty chest. Something warm that made me smile. My little seer, always attentive of me. What would I have done without her?
• I was grateful I’d died and was brought back here with her. Heaven. The only one I could aspire to.
What I needed was a dragon. A mighty one. Red eyes floated before me, and I felt taller, even as it only happened in my head. “I shaped it in the way I wanted.” It wasn’t only in my head. I was powerful; I was mighty. I was Ryanne.
• She laughed, and the entire forest vibrated as if a fresh rain had fallen.

I recieved this book as an ARC and all I can say is it did not disappoint. I loved the first installment so much that I was eager to jump straight back into the world of Ryanne and Titus and every moment was as exhilarating as it was amazing. I loved it. I cannot wait to continue reading this series. I wish I could rate it more than 5 stars.

NOTE: I was given an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. The book releases on March 26th 2024.

This picks up immediately after A Touch of Faete, and finds Ryanne trying to come to grips with the tension between her mission and her feelings for Titus. Titus on the other hand is also learning that there is more to who he is than the darkness that dwells in him and drives him to do its bidding. This story really ramps up the lore behind the Bradais and the Fae, and has plenty edge of the seat moments.

Because this is book 2 in a series, I don’t want to give too much information, but I do want to say that Ligia has greatly improved her story craft. I’m very impressed.

The worldbulding is extremely well done. I especially liked how immersed I felt in the lore for the Bradais. The romance subplot flows better with the story this time around. The romance is still there, but it’s balanced by more character maturity and the higher stakes of the story. That isn’t a criticism of book one by any means, but simply a note on how strong this story is.

I highly recommend you start reading this series. I’m very happy with my experience, and I’m looking forward to book 3.

Thank you Ligia for choosing me as an ARC reader and I am sorry this review is a long time coming.

A Burden of Faete starts almost immediately where a Touch if Faete ends. So for those of you reading a touch of Faete, make sure you have this book available for when you finish.

I am always loved Ryanne as a character. She is stubborn and sassy and relatable. She genuinely such a fun character to follow and I look forward to her POVs every time I was reading.

This book gave me major pirates of the Caribbean vibes - if Jack Sparrow was immortal and lived in the modern world. Titus’s internal battle was written brilliantly, and I love the background context that is sprinkled into the book. I also enjoyed the addition of the other pirates! Very good world building compared to the first book.

I’m excited for this series to continue!

I really enjoyed 'Touch of Faete' and was looking forward to this sequel, 'Burden of Faete'. Despite starting it pretty much immediately after finishing the first book, I did find it harder to get into this one. I'm not sure entirely why but it was almost like it couldn't quite get back into the particular style or rhythm of the first book. The story was still a good one but I just didn't find it as easy to read and get into.

The whole epilogue was repeated by mistake, which I'm assuming is just an issue with the ARC and won't be in the final released version but I wanted to mention it.

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from BookSirens, but this is my voluntary and honest review.

I received this as an ARC & I am so happy I did! Between this & the first book "Touch of Faete", I LOVE this fantasy world. I feel bad because I meant to review this a couple weeks ago when I finished it, but completely forgot. 10/10, highly recommend if you love fantasy, fae, pirates, Shadow daddies (not like Xaden or Rhys. Titus is a shadow daddy in his own way). These will definitely be books I go back to read again and again. I'm also going to be buying the physical copies soon. ❤️

'de Wit' enthralls with the second installment of the 'Braidai's Pledge' series. Once again, she has a strong tone that is reminiscent of American contemporaries such as Evanovich. Her world building is her best attribute, creating stunning and immersice fantasy. She deepens the historical and Irish background, differentiating herself from the usual fantasy novels.
'de Wit' manages to completely engage and entertain without making one feel like they are working. I highly recommend for a fun fantasy read.

Please note: this is an adult novel and is a touch steamy, I wouldn't recommend it for your children.

I had so much going on in my life that as much as I loved the first book I had trouble starting the second book in the Bradais Pledge series, “Burden of Faete”. But once I started, I could not put it down. It moves so quickly, and the characters are so alive, and Ligia paints them so beautifully and all of the places that they visit, I can just see in my minds eye. Her world building is amazing and as much as I enjoyed the first book, I am enjoying the second even more and absolutely cannot wait for the third.

I received eARC for my honest opinion.

I didn’t think that I could love a Fae world even more but after reading this book, I know that I could happily live in there and in the human world with the Bradais. This is book two of the Bradais Pledge and just like the first book it will still hook you with the attention to details, the great characters, the adventures, dual POVs and the slow burn romance.

This book continues where book one left off and you will be taken away to Ryanne and Titus adventures. You will see that Ryanne is still on her Fae mission to see what is causing the breach between their worlds, and to see still if there is a spark of light inside Titus. In this book you will get a face paced, action packed, you will see a fun magical system, and get more understanding of Titus and everything that he has gone through. I loved that with more understanding of Titus in this book comes with me loving him even more and wanting the world for him. I am happy that you still get to see Ryanne and her stubbornness, sassy and her need to understand everything. I love that she questions things because she wants to understand more about why, and what things are. She is also fierce, even though she is scared sometimes and wants to give up. You will see her fighting.

I loved Titus and getting to watch him come to terms of what really happened to him and to see him have a better understanding of what he is. I loved reading about the fighting scenes because I totally still see him as being a Pirate of the Caribbean vibe. I think he had a great development throughout the book but more so at the ending. His internal battles were written well, I truly felt as though I was him and going through it.

I really loved that Ligia de Wit brought more of the lore of Ireland into this book. It really helped me to picture the flashback scenes. The fantasy realm in this book was done so well that I really could envision what it would be like to visit there. You will be engaged throughout the whole book, and not wanting it to end but at the same time not wanting to put the book down. I cannot wait to read the next book and see what else is in store for the characters.

I want to thank Ligia de Wit for the opportunity to review this book.

I absolutely love this series. This is Book 2 in the Bradais Pledge series by Ligia de wit. The twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat and excited to find out what happens next.

This story picks up right where Touch of Faete leaves off where Ryanne can't help but fall for the burly pirate but she keeps hearing Cuidi's warning inside her head that that is not her mission. Her mission is still to find a spark of light in him/find whatever connects him to his darkness to see if he can be redeemed. Ryanne is coming in to her own and she knows what she has to do despite her growing feelings for Titus. She is stubborn and sassy and the banter between the two is part of what drives the story.

I love how we see into Titus's past. You learn a lot about who he actually is and his past exchanges with other Bradais that helped to mold him into who he is today. Now that he knows how Ryanne affects him he doesn't ever want to be without her and will protect her with everything he is even if that means going against his own kin.

We see more about who the Bradais and fae really are and learn a little more about some of the other creatures in the fae realm. The world building in these novels is amazing. You really feel like you are in these books and experiencing what the characters are experiencing.

I love the shifting POVs. Occasionally we get to see the different POVs of the same scene. I love seeing how Ryanne and Titus are both feeling about the same situation. It is interesting to hear Ryanne's dialogue and how she figures things out like a puzzle and uses the knowledge to better herself and make the situation not where she needs to be rescued but that she is providing support to Titus instead of him being the protector continuously.

I can see myself reading this series again and again.

Really looking forward to reading Book 3.

If you love fantasy, pirate fighting, a sassy, stubborn, independent female, mysteries, twists and turns at every corner then you will love this book.

I received an advance review copy for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Thank you to BookSirens and to Ligia de wit for the book.

“The line between triumph and tragedy is as fragile as a twist of faete.”

Burden of Faete dives even deeper into the enchanting (and at times heart-wrenching) world Ligia de Wit introduced in Bradaís Pledge, and this sequel is everything a second book should be: bigger, bolder, and richer in both emotion and lore.

From the moment I cracked open Book 2, I was reminded exactly why I love Ryanne. She’s stubborn, sassy, and refreshingly real—even in a world of magic and pirates and ancient fae prophecies. Following her POV is an absolute joy. She brings just the right amount of humor and heart to every scene, and her internal battles, especially as she navigates her feelings for Titus, add emotional layers that really stick with you.

Speaking of Titus… swoons dramatically. The tension between them was beautifully written, teetering on the edge of hope and heartbreak. I’m a sucker for a good tragic romance, and this one delivered that slow ache in the best way. You feel the stakes in every moment they share.

One of the strongest improvements in this installment is the worldbuilding. Compared to the first book, the expansion of the fae world—and especially the addition of the pirate crew—added texture and depth that pulled me in even more. The lore is more grounded now, more tangible, and you can sense that bigger things are brewing on the horizon. Also, the pirates? A+ decision. Each one brought something fun, dangerous, or unexpectedly heartfelt to the story.

If I had one wish, it would be for a bit more page time diving into Titus’s perspective or backstory, but maybe that’s what Book 3 is saving for us?

All in all, Burden of Faete blends fantasy, romance, and tragedy in a way that makes your heart race and ache at the same time. If you're already a fan of Ryanne, this book just makes you love her more. And if you're new to the series—honestly, what are you waiting for?

I received Burden of Faete as an ARC read, and I was so excited, having thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the Bradais Pledge Series, Touch of Faete. I didn't think the adventures could get better, but Burden of Faete upped the game, and I was quickly drawn into the quest of Ryanne, a nurse with a touch of fae and ability to foretell certain events, and Titus, an immortal pirate cursed with blood lust and an inner beast, to ultimately discover what has caused the breach between their worlds.

If you love fantasy, relatable female protagonists who are not the typical damsel in distress, pirate adventures, and looming mysteries involving borrowings from Irish lore, you will be captivated by Burden of Faete.

Burden of Faete gives us a more in depth view of the two main characters, shifting first person POVs, as we saw in Book 1. This shift can be a difficult one for an author to pull off, but, as I read, I could hear the change in the voice and attitude in my head, which is a huge tribute to the author's character development! What I enjoyed most were 1) the tense fight scenes between the pirates, the Peter Pan-like fae, and some rather creepy ne'er-do-wells; 2) the love scenes -- I usually get bored by love scenes, but de Wit has developed the scenes with emotion and playfulness and credibility; 3) the deeper dive into the origin of Titus.

I would have liked a little more description, but the fast paced action and fun dialogue, and seamless slide from Ryanne's maturing, practical but adventurous POV to Titus' swaggering, Thor-like, take none of that bilge POV more than makes up for it. Five stars!

Burden of Faete picks up shortly after the conclusion of Touch of Faete. Ryanne is determined to cultivate and strengthen the spark within Titus, but finds herself falling in love with him. Titus is resolved to keep Ryanne as close as possible as she helps keep his inner beast under control, but cannot love due to his lack of soul. When Titus attracts the attention of his alpha, Edward, Ryanne and Titus escape to the fae realm but find themselves at odds with the fae. Can they find a way to release Titus' beast despite the machinations of both the fae and the bradais?

As a second book in a series, Burden of Faete builds on what was established in the first book. Ryanne does develop in maturity, even proving herself to no longer being a child to the fae. I would have liked for her to mature even more, though that would have been fairly unrealistic given the degree of arrested development her attachment to the fae has caused her. She does finally come into her own power and start taking action to become an actual player rather than a pawn. Titus also develops emotionally, though he spends a lot of time throughout the book waffling between selfish desires and fear.

Overall a good bridging book that continues to work on the themes and character growth to set the stage for the final book of a the series.

A sophisticated follow-up to Touch of Faete that delves into the backstory of the Bradais, and co-protagonist Titus in particular. While his evolving romance with Ryanne will please romance aficionados, the unwinding of the mystery of why Titus is different from his Bradais kin fascinated me. We meet many more of them, some friends, some former friends, and some most definitely NOT friends. It's a unique and interesting concept, and I suspect there are many elements to the mystery we have yet to see.

Ryanne is still torn between her duty to the Fae, whatever that duty actually is - the Fae are, of course, delightfully unfathomable - her growing attraction to Titus, and her determination to see and elevate his potential, the good in him. We learn answers to some of her questions, and of course, discover more questions, which is exactly the kind of story I love! Titus and Ryanne grow together in this book, although I think the emphasis is on him. I look forward to Ryanne taking a major step forward in upcoming installments!

The world-building borrows much from various mythical traditions, but the author has done well to make it her own. I did occasionally get lost in some of the names and terms, but not enough to lose the threads of the story. The prose is accessible, whimsical at times, and the device of two first-person protagonists works very well. I'm already looking forward to the next book! Well done!

It’s the second installment of the series, and it’s blown me away.
The lore and background information, especially for the Fae and the Bradaís are more thorough in this book, and I loved the use of flashbacks, it really added to the depth of the characters. Every character grows and matures, and it’s wonderful to follow their journey.
After reading the first book, I didn’t know the impact it would have on me, and it’s definitely solidified with book 2. I love this story and the characters so much, I’ve changed my review of the first book from a 4 star review to a 5 star review, because it simply won’t leave my mind, and I think about it daily.
Happy release day! I can hardly wait for the next book!

An epic slow burn in a word where Pirates and Fae are mortal enemies and a fae touched girl is trying to be the bridge between the two worlds, all the while balancing her growing feelings for a pirate but not wanting to let down her Fae mentors.
A very unique type of pirates, that would perfectly fan the flames of the stories of the blood thirsty swashbucklers that humans know, but making the more sinister and dangerous.
I am loving deep diving into this story and these characters. Learning more about what makes them unique and watching them grow.
So hard to be reading a book you are loving when you are so busy all you can fit in is a chapter or two a day at times.

An Epic Adventure!

There are so many moving parts and bells and whistles in this masterfully orchestrated piece, I am gobsmacked and in awe! Being my first Ligia de Wit book, I was thrilled to come across yet another fabulous indie author with great Talent!

It's like LoTR and Pirates of the Caribbean had a love child, and I was there for the birth. I feel like I should throw a baby shower or something. Make punch, homemade buttermints, and start some party games.

Anyway, Burden of Faete was no burden to read. You'll love Ryanne and Titus as they struggle to do what's right without compromising their connection.

Charisma. Chemistry. Courage. Change.

Book 2 was worth the wait! Burden of Faete picks right up from where we left off in book 1: Touch of Faete. We get a more in depth adventure of Ryanne and Titus, with the continuation of the epic world building in book 1. Where Touch of Faete has us intrigued, Burden of Faete has us obsessed. Without spoiling any discoveries, this book further examines character dynamics, growth, triumph, tragedy, and love. This story is an easy read to follow and to become engrossed in. I look forward to reading more from this author.

I enjoyed this book more than the first. This book picks right up from the first one. I felt more invested in this story. I understood terms (the first book jumps right into fictional terms with no explanation) A little more spice and the plot continued. I really enjoy the FMC coming into a more powerful role, and into her powers in general. Another cliffhanger for the next book. But I look forward to reading it and continuing on their journey.

Ryanne and Titus pick up where they left off in the middle of their adventure. I feel like the first book left off on a great cliffhanger that was the perfect lead-in for book 2. Personally this was my favorite of the 2 as it had more of the adventure, heart and story of the series. I was glad with where things inevitably leave off however I was left craving just a little bit more.

Thank you to Booksirens for this ARC. This book was, almost impossibly, better than its predecessor. Ryanne and Titus' relationship growth was truly a sight to behold, and the revelations spread throughout the book were both largely unexpected and eminently right. All in all, I am eager to get my hands on the final book of this trilogy, and applaud its author for a masterful work.

I love a bold, brave FMC. Ryanne is a wonderfully fleshed out character, and I’ve so enjoyed her story. She and Titus are so good together. The world and the magic within is well thought out and executed. It’s easy to get lost in this story.

Ryanne is still working hard to save Titus as they both try to stay alive. Lots of trouble and intrigue to keep me glued to the end to see what they must face this time. Their story is a blast as was the first one in the series. Enjoyed the twists and turns as the story unfolds. Easy to read and get sucked into the story and root for these two.

After finishing the first book I was so excited to read the second part of this story. Just like the first it stuck to its attention to detail and great characters. I’m excited to see where this journey takes us next.

A solid 4 / 5 ✨

This book took a little bit to get into but I would say I like it more than the first.
Overall another easy read expanding in this world which I enjoyed and I’m looking forward to whatever happens next.

These are just some of the takeaways I had while reading-

I’m unsure why, but anytime the author mentions a similarity to a Seahawks player it just takes me out of the world she is building.
I understand wanting a vivid description of the person she is describing, I just feel like it could have gone over better with different wording.

I also wasn’t a fan of how Titus would say Ryanne is strong and she’ll survive just to turn it back around and say the opposite. Although a person can both be strong but scared, it doesn’t make sense here.

And lastly I noticed Ryanne ‘thanked’ the Fae, which is not something you should do, even if she has a touch of Fae, I would think this is something to omit, unless Peter and the rest never told her this rule, which would be why they keep having her do things for them without explain anything?

✨I was provided an ARC but the review is completely my own opinion✨

Ugh just like the first book I'm in love!!! This one is just as good if not better then the first book! I love the way the storyline just meshes together and the way you learn more about Titus past than before and more about the bradai and their history. Read this series it's just so good!!

I loved reading this book and continuing to watch Titus and Ryanne grow together. It was so easy to get lost in the story. I finished before I knew any better. My hunch from book one was right, Edward is stressful. Kara is the absolute best, love her so much. And let me tell you, plot twist. When does the next one come out??

A Riveting Sequel That Deepens the Magic and the Stakes

I absolutely loved watching Ryanne’s growth in this book—her journey of self-discovery, the challenges she faces, and the revelations about the Bradaís kept me hooked from start to finish. Her bond with Titus evolves beautifully, shifting from captor and captive to something far more complex and deeply emotional. Who would have thought a pirate and someone touched by the Fae could forge such an unbreakable connection?

This book also makes it clear why the Fae needed a human to act as a bridge between their world and the Bradaís. Only someone without bias could truly see what they are capable of—whether they have a heart, a soul, or something else entirely. The depth of the lore, the tension, and the undeniable chemistry between the characters make this installment impossible to put down.

If you haven’t started this series yet, I highly recommend it. And if you have? Be prepared for another thrilling ride—you won’t regret it!

Burden of Faete is fabulous!
Captain Titan Doyle, Ryanne Kelly and her pixie friend Bricius return in the continuation of this fun swashbuckling tale.
Plenty of action and adventures take these three on another wild ride in the fabulous sequel to Touch Of Faete. I was again entranced with the taming of this hulking, possessed man. Bricius adds a bit of levity to any situation, but also makes you proud of this little bug! Ryanne is always learning something new and falling a little more, all the time.
I am again greatly looking forward to continuing this story and just can’t wait for the next release!!

In Burden of Faete by Ligia de Wit, we are swept into an enchanting and perilous world where the boundaries between love and duty, fae and human, are as delicate and complex as the web of faete itself. De Wit crafts a narrative that is rich in magic and emotion, weaving a tale that is both captivating and heart-wrenching.

The novel continues to follow Ryanne, a character caught in the throes of an epic quest to discover the spark of creation within Titus, a task that could mean salvation for the fae. However, this mission is fraught with unexpected complications, not least of which is the deep and forbidden connection she develops with the pirate Titus. Despite the warnings from her fae mentors about losing her humanity, Ryanne finds in Titus a sense of safety and exhilaration she cannot deny.

Titus, on the other hand, is a character shrouded in mystery and darkness. His past haunts him, driving him to seek solace in the arms of Ryanne, the only person capable of calming the storm within him. Together, they navigate a fragile peace, one constantly threatened by the looming conflict between the fae and the bradaís, eternal foes locked in a deadly game that could unravel the fabric of their existence.

De Wit's storytelling is immersive, drawing you into a world where the line between triumph and tragedy is razor-thin. The romantic elements of the story are beautifully balanced with the overarching narrative of conflict and survival, creating a story that is both deeply personal and grand in scale. The chemistry between Ryanne and Titus is palpable, their relationship a beacon of light in the darkness that surrounds them.

Burden of Faete is a testament to the power of love in the face of insurmountable odds. Ryanne's journey from a caílin, a child in the eyes of the fae, to a formidable force to be reckoned with, is compelling and full of growth. The novel delicately explores themes of identity, belonging, and the transformative power of love.

Ligia de Wit has penned a spellbinding tale that resonates with the struggles of its characters, making Burden of Faete a standout in the realm of fantasy romance. It is a story of how the heart can find light in the darkest of times and how bonds forged in the heat of battle can withstand the tests of fate. This novel is a must-read for fans of the genre, promising a journey filled with danger, magic, and the indomitable spirit of love.

If you have any question about if you should read this... well, I have one question for you...

Thank you Booksirens & Ligia de Wit for the opportunity!
