By day she works as a business analyst; by night she runs a retirement home for aged horses, dogs and cats. On the week-ends she spends a lot of time in Regency England, creating heroes and heroines to fight the Napoleonic Wars, shock London society, and set the countryside in an uproar. Her accomplice is her computer-expert husband Don, who is one of her biggest fans.
Barb admits to enjoying the research as much as the writing, and has the books to prove it. France used to be in the dining room and England in the living room. Now that she has taken over the upper story of their old farmhouse as an office at least all the books are one floor. This saves a tremendous amount of time when she is trying to confirm an obscure fact in the middle of the night. Under the name Laurel Ames she produced eight Regency-era historicals for Harlequin, one of which was nominated for a Rita in 1994. Now, she writes as Barbara Miller. Libro delizioso. Una vera sorpresa.
Un clean regency, pieno di passione e arguzia.
Costruito molto bene, personaggi ben delineati, storia appassionante.
L'autrice ha sicuramente letto e amato Georgette Heyer.

Carino, ad una certa esasperante, ma valido soprattutto per l'angst che è presente sino al 95%
Ci sono cose che mi hanno fatto storcere un po' il naso ma rispetto alla Kendrick questa autrice sa il fatto suo, sia riguardo a storicità nel non rendere la storia banale.
Le do questo punteggio solo perché Richard non mi è piaciuto molto, ha dalla sua il vantaggio di essere un personaggio variegato e complesso con traumi alle spalle di cui non si verrà mai a sapere se non poche, piccolissime sfumature. Poi ad un certo punto va in errore 404 e bho si risolve tutto un po' a tarallucci e vino. Forse l'ultima scena era stata ripresa da un quadro in particolare ma insomma mi ha lasciata un delusa.
Comunque un libro valido, lo consiglio nonostante non mi abbia fatta impazzire.

Alla fin fine sono 3*** e mezzo ma solo perché c'è la nota romantica di mezzo.....
La storia ha un suo potenziale ma è talmente disarmante da suscitare solo un forte nervosismo per una buonissima parte del racconto a causa di erroracci forse di traduzione o di mal svolgimento di non so cosa!
Tutti i personaggi sono troppo arrendevoli e sguazzanti nella loro natura facendo cadere ogni interesse. Dalla madre paurosa e codarda. A lui testardo e intrattabile. Da lei arrendevole nei suoi cambiamenti e nelle vicissitudine che la rincorrono.
Sprezzante per il nervoso che suscita in certi punti. E non lo dico perché manca il consueto contatto fisico esplicito che qualcuno potrebbe subito cercare ma per l'ostentata irrilevanza che mostrano i vari personaggi nel loro susseguirsi.
Forse quelli più avvincenti sono Harry e il nonno della protagonista ma purtroppo non sono loro i protagonisti della vicenda...

For a romance novel, too much time is spent on girl-dressed-boy drama, as in he doesn't get lascivious thoughts about her till about page 250 when he gets a sudden tightening in the groin looking at her, and then twenty pages later, the Epilogue ends with most shockingly intimate sex scene. It would have been better, were it more balanced, given that the author's manner of storytelling is a good one.

Great Author but not too thrilled about the sequence of this story ... it seems that I was half way to the end of the story when it started getting exciting ... I would say that this is a "Good Read" and nothing more ...
