Ni-Lach #3
Beyond the Draak's Teeth
DRAAKSBANE
Humans had named the planet Ver-draak after the huge reptiles they found there. Among the native Ni-lach people, special singers were trained to control the deadly predators. But humans had to depend on the Ni-lach for protection.
So when a group of human adventurers planned an expedition across the dreaded Draak's Teeth mountains, they needed a draak-singer to safeguard their journey.
Suddenly the Ni-lach Bhaldavin was thrust into a quest for the relics of a forgotten era--and his only hope for freedom lay with the very people who had enslaved him.

Certainly one of the books of all time. The last couple chapters took a crazy turn and not for the better. It's unfortunate because I think if the story was a bit more grounded and the whole part about the first people and their lost civilization was replaced with Bhaldavin and his searching for his brother I think we could have gotten a really cool story sort of similar to the avatar movie. Also Theon and Gringers never once apologized for enslaving, sexually assaulting, and beating Bhaldavin. :(

Giving this one (and the rest of the series) 4 stars, based solely on the wonder they gifted me when I first read them, almost 30 years ago. I'd be curious to re-read them, and see what I think nowadays....and may do just that.

Ok, so right before this one, I re-read the first two... Those two reviews pretty well sum this one up. Slightly different story, new characters that I don't care about, but same basic formula. OK read, but not a keeper.

This is technically young adults sci-fi but I've always loved it. A bit hard to get at this point.
