Westlife: Our Story is a must read for any person who is a fan or was a fan of the biggest boyband to ever come out of the UK. The book, told from the different perspectives of Shane, Mark, Nicky and Kian, is written on the eve of their biggest concert in Croke Park which also coincided with their decision to take a year off. At the time the book was written, they had just celebrated 10 years together, and aside from bands like Backstreet Boys, it is not common for a boy band to reach that mile stone.
Despite the book being co-written with Martin Roach, you can almost hear the voices of each of the lads as they told the story of their rise to fame. Our Story covers everything from their childhoods in Dublin and Sligo, all the way up to the first meeting with Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell. They discuss in depth the departure of Brian McFadden as well as their love lives, marriage, children and the day that Mark came out as gay.
I was, and still am, a huge fan of Westlife. I still remember the day that I first heard Swear It Again and from that very day I was hooked. I grew up listening to their music and to this day it is one of the only bands that I can listen to on repeat. I have even gotten my kids into listening to it. I would recommend this book to any fan. I honestly couldn’t find a fault with the book at all.
