This is my 101st book by Tammy Andresen. I have been reading her since 2017. Needless to say, after reading over 100 of her books, ya'll know she is a favorite. 😊 I find a lot of her books are quick reads but still really good. She still gets great depth in her characters and the storylines are good. I am really loving this series.

I loved Nellie and Ran. I loved their story and their personalities. There were a few instances that were super cute and had me smiling. I have to be careful because I was reading at work and I didn't want anyone to say, what the hell are you smiling at. 😊 Anyway I loved the suspense and their chemistry was noticeable. Overall great read. Can't wait for the next one.

I spy

Ran was the second son, and he enjoyed his work as a spy, working for the Crown. Then his older brother died and he was a Viscount. The Crown said that he was to retire and produce an heir. But there was still one criminal that needed to be caught, a man named Gyla.
Nellie was the Baroness Hygrove, and she had been diagnosed with a lung infection and not expected to live. Nellie’s mother wanted to marry her off before she died so she would be taken care of before Nellie died and the title went to someone else. She thought Gyla was the answer when he offered to marry Nellie.
I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everyone.

Eleanor Highgrove was a diamond & her parents were justly proud of her until an illness took her father & left her with ravaged lungs and she’s not sure how she’ll ever lead a normal life, or how long she’ll even be alive, she decides it’s time to really live. The moment Viscount Ran Northville, enters her life, tempted doesn’t begin to describe how she feels. He is everything that Nellie is not. Older, mysterious, handsome as sin, and he hides the sorts of secrets that give her the chills. She’s also being courted by another gentleman who gives her chills of another kind.
The hunt for Gyla reaches a climax as Ran finally tracks him down. Both men are interested in Nellie one for his own means & one to protect her. I loved Nellie who didn’t expect to survive the winter until Ran took over her care. I also loved Ran who wanted to not only bring down Gyla but protect Nellie until Nellie became his total focus. A fast paced romance, there’s a villain to track & deal with, a heroine with a big secret & a hero who is swoon worthy. I loved the chemistry between Ran & Nellie & loved their journey to a HEA & the beautiful epilogue was the icing on the cake
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This book felt like the end of a great series, there was nothing that you could not lose yourself in, the characters blended really well together, it closed all doors on our amazing men known as the Smiths and let’s face it who would not like to meet one of these men.

Nellie and Ran’s story gives you all the wonderful qualities of love and support, a really feel good read.

This book was one of those reads that is a real page turner, I was guilty of that, I was actually pulling for these two to really blend together and for Ran to get his end.

No spoilers

Highly recommend all in this series

My least favorite in this series. It was ruined by the use of condoms. And yeah, I get the heroine was sick and fragile and the hero was trying to prevent pregnancy, but it still ruined the smexy times. It would’ve been better if he had just pulled out. Nothing kills a sense of closeness and intimacy than an impersonal layer of sheep’s gut to separate the hero from the heroine.

Noooo thanks.

Safe. Hero’s past isn’t mentioned too much. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero. No ow/om. No cheating or abuse or sharing. Condoms used in the only sex scene in the book. HEA with epilogue

Nellie and Ran sure did play a number of play doctor moments between the two. You know the game were you would be outside in the backyard with the neighborhood kid. Your mom would call what are you kids doing and we would respond back that we're playing doctor. Uh, hm. Nellie's mother seems to have turned a blind eye to this. The romance part for me was perfect. There are some moments that I thought were not that believable. Take for instance the many intament scenes that Ran and Nellie shared. Not one time that the two crossed the line until the ending. Those parts were niggling at my interpretation of those moments Now please do not get me wrong. The story was a beautiful story to tell. The romanticisim of a strong, handsome, take charge, powerful man comes into yiur life. He makes all these decisions for you as far as your health and protection. What lady wouldnt swoon from that? I thought that the characters all moved adequetly to the plot and the resounding ending. The writer did great of catching my attention, with the creative outline to the books plot. With those few points,I will say that I liked the book. I give this book two snaps and a twist. Until Next time my fellow readers. Read on!

The ninth story in the Lords of Temptation another engaging story in this series. Miss Eleanor Highgrove or Nellie to her friends and ex-spy Viscount Ran Northville along with villain Gyla's story. The story grabbed my interest from the start and did not let go until I had finished. The storyline is well written with its twists and turns, and romance. I found the story to be well worth reading. I want to read the next book. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Viscount Northville may be a spy for the Crown, but he's met his match in the young lady who charms, seduces and raises his protective instincts. This is one hot, sexy spy!
Lots of steam!!!

This was soooo good!! Tammy Andresen has written another terrific story which I had a hard time putting down. Nellie has always been a "good girl" but when she overhears that she might not last through the winter because of her weak lungs, she decides she wants to experience passion before she dies. When Ran comes into her life, she knows right away that he's the one she wants to experience it with!!

I absolutely adored Ran, he was so caring and gentle with Nellie and I also loved how he took over her care which gave her hope that her life wasn't over yet! He's such a swoonworthy hero:) The story kept my interest from start to finish and that ending....perfect:)

I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

This was a good addition to the Lords of Temptation series (a spinoff of the Lords of Scandal series), one of my favorites of the series. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.

I read the Lords of Scandal series, but it was some time ago, so I had already forgotten a great deal about the plot and characters. It would help, I think, to read the Lords of Scandal series right before reading this spinoff series.

Nellie was likable, and it was sad that her doctor's treatment was just making her sicker, instead of helping her get well. It was also sad that her mother was so determined to marry her off -- so much so that she didn't even notice the man she wanted for Nellie was a very evil man.

Ran was likable, and I loved that he immediately realized that Nellie needed different treatment to get well -- and even insisted that he manage her care, and find her another doctor. Thanks to him, Nellie recovered. I also liked that he wanted to protect Nellie from Gyla, who was such an awful man.

I liked that Nellie and Ran fell in love while he protected and cared for her. They were good together.

I really liked that Gyla was finally killed in this story. He had caused so much trouble, and hurt so many people in his life of crime. It was time to put an end to him and his crimes.

Other reviewers have mentioned that this series has lots of historical errors, and that the couples' behavior and language often doesn't fit the rigid cultural requirements of that time period. That is true, but I don't really mind in this case -- since I am reading the series merely for entertainment. If I were looking for historical accuracy, I would read a classic author like Jane Austen.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

A Vengeful Viscount
(Lords of Temptation #9)
By Tammy Andresen

Ran Northville was a second son, you know the spare..when he was younger his father bought him a commission to the British Armed Forces. His brother would become the Viscount and Ran would have his job of fighting alongside his men and later becoming a spy…and guess who he was after now “Gyla” the man who was trying to buy up property and businesses in England, but Gyla was not on the up and up and Ran was prepared to hunt him down and make sure he was turned into the King. He knew he would find him soon and only one of them would walk away.

Nellie (Miss Eleanor Highgrove) was not well. She had been fighting lung disease for over a year now….the doctors said she would not have a long life and children would not be possible…as far as the London marriage mart was concerned, she will not find a husband. But, our tight lipped heroine also has a secret, a secret that has left her vulnerable. The man who the Lords of Temptation and the Smiths have been hunting, has proclaimed he will be courting Nellie.

When Ran sees Nellie talking with Gyla, he does what a good spy does, he finds where she and has plans to find out just what she knows about Gyla. He shows up Highgrove house with lots of questions and when Nellie makes him a proposition he takes her up on it..

It seems Ran has already developed and interest in both Nellie and her health….what will happen? Will Gyla finally get what he deserves?
The banter and discussions between Nellie and Ran keep readers flipping pages and all sorts of mayhem will occur.

A wonderful read, from Author Tammy Andersen has given readers a wonderful Regency story filled with intrigue, suspense and a bit of spice.

The book follows the story of Nellie, a young woman who suffers from a lung disease that threatens her life, and Viscount Northville, a mysterious and handsome nobleman who offers her a chance to experience passion and adventure before she dies. The two embark on a risky and thrilling affair, but soon discover that their feelings for each other are deeper than they expected. However, their happiness is threatened by secrets, lies, and enemies who want to destroy them.

Andresen delivers a steamy and captivating romance that will keep readers hooked from the first page to the last. The characters are well-developed and complex, with realistic flaws and emotions. Nellie is a brave and spirited heroine who refuses to let her illness define her, while Northville is a brooding and protective hero who hides a painful past. The chemistry between them is sizzling and undeniable, and the love scenes are hot and sensual. The plot is fast-paced and engaging, with twists and turns that keep the suspense high. A Vengeful Viscount is a must-read for fans of historical romance, especially those who enjoy stories with strong and independent heroines, dark and dangerous heroes, and a dash of intrigue and danger. It is a standalone novel, but readers who have read the previous books in the series will enjoy revisiting some familiar characters and seeing how their stories have progressed. Andresen has once again proven her talent and skill as a storyteller, and I look forward to reading more of her books in the future. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book; all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Throughout this series, Gyla has been a thorn in Viscount Northville's side. As a man who had previously served Britain as a spy, he does not like loose ends, and Gyla has become his worst enemy. Following Gyla to the Westmorelands' Winter Gala, he gets far more than he bargained for when Miss Eleanor Highgrove confronts him with a proposal. Nellie knows her days are numbered, but she wants to experience what is due to her, and in Ran, she sees a man who can fulfill all her fantasies. He's a man with a mission, but as Ran spends time with Nellie, his heart is touched and he begins to care about her and for her future. Unfortunately, Gyla needs Nellie even more than Ran does, but for a different purpose altogether. This fairly short novel is well written and suspenseful and the reader cannot help but feel relieved when Gyla finally receives his just reward. Although this romance comes to a violent conclusion, it is nevertheless a lovely ending to an adventure that has kept Ran and his friends on tenterhooks for so long. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

There are too many reasons to list why I really love this series and Tammy Andresen’s writing style. The books are always enjoyable and go by too fast. This is part of the series Lords of Temptation and I have read about Ran/Northville in previous books, and I believe this should be the last book in the series. This is about Nellie who thinks she is going to die very soon because of her lungs. She decides she would like to live her life to the fullest before she dies. Her mother wants her to marry very soon, and she has decided a man name Gyla is perfect for her. Ran has been after Gyla for a long time, and now he knows he wants Nellie, he knows how to catch him. From the beginning Ran has wanted to take care of Nellie and she wants to help him. I loved their love story.

The chase ends with love for the Viscount…

I enjoyed the story of Ran and Nellie. They were both great characters, and their banter was entertaining from the moment they met. His protectiveness over Nellie was really sweet, and her instant trust of him was a big sign of their growing affection. He stepped in and made changes to her care instead of just accepting her original diagnosis even though they were just two people that had made a beneficial deal. Of course, that plan turned into love on both of their parts. I like that once he realized it he didn’t prolong revealing his feelings to her, and he didn’t let her push him away for any misguided reasons. I was glad to get resolution for Ran on his search for Gyla allowing Ran and Nellie to get their happily ever after.

How Can a Mission of Revenge Lead to Love?

Ran had been looking for Gyla for years. Now, the man has surfaced and was intending to marry a noblewoman to elevate his position. Gyla had been causing no end of trouble for Ran and his family, and Ran was determined to stop him.

Nellie wanted nothing to do with Gyla, so she made a deal with Ran. A lung illness that killed her father was plaguing her. She was not sure how long she would live, and she wanted to enjoy life to the fullest. Ran agreed, but he did not count on losing his heart in the process. What happened when a mission of revenge became a mission of protection? Ran would not see Nellie hurt, but would he give up his quest to destroy Gyla? I enjoyed this novella and would recommend it to those who like historical romance.

Ran is an action packed man who inherits a Viscount title when his brother dies.
He continues his quest hunting down the villain Gyla when he unexpectedly encounters Nellie.
Nellie has very weak lungs with a poor prognosis but she is being courted by Gyla for her title.
Ran gets involved with Nellie to trap him but soon finds himself caring for the woman who only seeks adventure before her demise.
Action and thrilling encounters happen from page one so the reader is hard put to stop reading until the end. Great banter, part of a series that enhances knowledge but easily read alone.

Short

Nellie has weak lungs after an illness, and her doctor and mother are convinced she won't live long. But her mother, selfishly is determined she's married before she dies, so her mother is looked after for the rest of her life. At a rate outing Nellie finds her self with two suiters, one Gyla who frightens her and the other Ran, a former officer turned spy who's been chasing Gyla for years. Now a Viscount Ran has had to give up his role in the army.
This book hasn't the plot of the previous books in the series, it's all too easy, little suspense or doubt of the outcome.

I loved this book and the affection that develops between Ran and Nellie. Ran’s devotion to helping her overcome her lung disease is the start of an emotional and physical relationship that far exceeds his expectations. Ran has set out with a plan to use Nellie as a means to draw out her suitor, his enemy, Gyla but falls under the spell of this determined woman with nothing to lose. One of my favorites by this author.

This is a great story that will have you turning pages for more than one reason. An almost former spy determined to finish an unfinished mission before he retires completely and a young woman who fears she will not live much longer, but wants to experience life and passion, have something in common – Lord Gyla. He wishes to wed Nellie (for nefarious reasons), and Ran hopes to finally bring him to justice. Maybe a joint effort will serve both their wishes. Ran and Eleanor are drawn to each other, even though neither believes they can be together. The chemistry between them sizzles. Eleanor is weak physically, but intelligent, caring, and emotionally strong. Ran is protective and encouraging. Now for the two page-turning questions. Will Gyla finally get the comeuppance he deserves? Will Eleanor live to see a happily ever after with Ran? This is a wonderfully exciting story with a great plot, remarkable characters, and, yes, a happy ending.

The reader is never disappointed when they have a book by Tammy Andresen. She knows her Regency Era very well and writes such delicious books about that time and the Aristocracy. Her characters are adventurous and so realistic.
