Genre: SciFi

Review: I really am circumspect about reviewing books that friends on GRs have recommended to me. You have to be cognizant that identities may closely align with their choices in literature and that to impune a work they may be emotionally invested in, is tantamount to a direct slap in the face. This should be an innate response that purveys intrinsic respect for those people you deem worthy of consideration. It is like accepting a family members outburst because you love them despite their shortcomings. Yay dysfunction.

Long story short, a popular reviewer on GR asked me about Rachels work, Secondhand Spaceman and if she would like it. It is not Melville but it is light hearted fun, imo. Sure I may despise myself later for giving a high rating, but sometimes you have to let literary constraints fall and just enjoy yourself. So, later I read their review and phrases like "immature stream of consciousness" and "channeling your inner early teen" were some of their remarks. Wow, FU 2. Let us not forget I have bade the bad horizons adieu with this person when opinions polarize. What pains me to realize, like all my narcissistic familial burdens, is that this person was a friend in name only, does not respect anyone, and love is parceled amongst inner demands for adoration via prose.

Ah, empathy where is thy sting.

This work follows the trials and tribulations of our mighty MC. It is fun without constraint if you allow yourself to go there.

Unfortunately this seems to be the last book in the series which is a real bummer. This third novella is as much fun as the first two. Frank has gained some maturity & spine and this “ticket” highlights both-although he is still not the greatest at his job-he & Fetch seem to take a beating with every repo job! Fast paced and entertaining read, definite favorite & top book of the year! My ONLY complaint is that it seems a 4th book in the series is planned but not happening for awhile-everyone go buy this series and let’s get the next one published!!!

I've thoroughly enjoyed all three Secondhand novellas. This one had only one disappointing item; after the end, the author informed us it would be the last. Apparently, the series hasn't been selling well, which defies explanation, so she won't be writing the 4th episode in the series. At least not now... I hate to be left hanging with Shrike, Totty and future tickets hanging over Frank's head but I understand the need to write things that produce revenue.

Any repo person will confirm gleefully that every repo job is always a risk, whether to your life or your reputation and/or dignity.
So it is not that strange that Frank, having been sent to repo an old security mechanoid, ran into some fierce opposition from the mechanoid.
And who got the strangest helpers aiding his resistance to Frank's efforts.
That is, until an old enemy of Frank appears on the scene and all bets are off.
Enjoy.

Sad to see it end

I enjoy novellas, and as a longtime reader of Analog, Azimov's, and F&SF magazines, it is great to read work that harkens back to the Golden Age in style, but with enough modern touches to make it relatable. I love this author's work, and I'm glad that there will be more adventures in this universe.

Fun shortstory

Rachel Aukes provides another chapter on the life of a not-that-bright young male who aspired to be a truck driver and ended up as an indentured repo agent with an alien boss who looks like an overgrown jellybean and owns his contract for the next eighty-one plus years.

To the author: Please write fast. Can't wait to see what happens next.

This the third of a fun group of three science fiction humor books. These books keep getting better and better. I recommend you buy and read all three in order. The disappointing thing is that this one if likely the last as the author says sales are not good enough to justify writing number four. These short lighthearted books are well worth the price so go and buy them then read and enjoy.

Done with 3

As the others a really fun read. Amazing how one guy can get into all this trouble and still live. A repo man in space sure lives excitingly. Can’t wait for the fourth book.

Good series

Five never been a huge fan of puberty and stupidities and young men go through; this one did a better job than most at giving luck it's due. I recommend you read all three, and in my mind the last of the three is the best.

Excellent sci fi adventure

I'm sad to see that Aukes isn't continuing Frank's series. I enjoyed his adventures in this rather dark universe, especially this book, since he finds a way to do the right thing and stay alive.

The end?

It really is unfortunate that novellas are not more popular. I would be excited to read more about this poor, indebted repo man.

Rachel Aukes’ Book 3, “Secondhand Singularity” is a shorter volume than the preceding books in the “Secondhand Spaceman” series but it is just as entertaining as the others, if not more. The increasingly wily and effective space repo-man, Frank Woods, with an onboard alien and a missing appendage, is back with only ’81 years and change’ to work off his debt to a large alien that looks like a gumdrop, if he can survive her tasks. Aukes delivers a fully-developed and ever-evolving plot surrounding challenging and unusual ‘tickets’, and there is also a 'score' that may need to be settled as Frank heads out to his latest unique adventure. Highly Enjoyable and Humorous. Five RESOLUTE Stars. Kindle, 100 pages.
