A significant improvement on the first volume, with a promising premise - what if the war had ended while Optimus Prime and Megatron were on Earth? Unfortunately, things degrade quickly (both plot-wise and structure-wise) once we return to Cybertron, and an infodump in the last chapter trying to explain things doesn't quite help... but the characterizations are solid and there are definitely some nice moments throughout. Shame it wasn't put together a little more tightly. (B)

This is my favorite Transformers miniseries from the Dreamwave years. It's better than the first volume. Primarily, because it has less humans and it's a return to Cybertron.

The writer remixed parts of The Transformers: The Movie (1986) and some elements of the third season of the original animated series. It gave a different ending to the Cybertronian civil war, with a new Cybertronian society rebuilding antebellum. It was an ambitious approach, but unfortunately the scripting was not up to it. The art is serviceable and in the chunky Transformers style that Dreamwave made the house style for its Transformers materials.

Originally read as individual issues numbers 1-6 of the original Transformers Generation 1 Volume 2 series.

The best G1 offering Dreamwave gave. It’s a slow burn in issues 3-4, but 5-6 give a great pay-off. I’m a sucker for simple themes about soldiers and sacrifices. Also the reveal of Ultra Magnus’ inner form is still *chef’s kiss*. I feel like Pat Lee didn’t actually pencil this at times (which is a good thing, but bad for no crediting).

I don't mind Pat Lee's art one bit. The writing here is pretty bad though. Dreamwave writing always makes me fall asleep. So dull. Really cool scenes in this one though. Dramatic toy action lol

An ok outing but likely because I was not reading these when they first came out I have struggled to find a connection to this run as it just feels like a rehash rather than a true reboot.

This arc had a hugely successful epic feel to it. Changing allegiances all over the place, awesome artwork and great writing from debut Transformers writer. It got very slightly confusing towards the end, but overall a highlight in the world of transformers comics.

Beautiful artwork (although the coloring is still a little dark) and a well done story that has an amazing scope, using so many of the classic characters and using them well, makes this possibly the best of the Dreamwave Transformers titles.
