Writing HERstory: A Memoir Featuring 18 Women and HERstory

It's a girl thing . . .To know and share our histories and stories is to know and understand aspects of the female experience. The journeys and pathways we have walked, the triumphs and tragedies and how they all come together to paint a picture-those are our shared experiences. That is when you can connect the dots along our timelines and see the pattern. In Writing HERstory, Ashley Lougheed uncovers the power of women's stories, and they are more alike than different. Regardless of dark or light times, the female experience is universal. We know the pain of trial and defeat and have faced internal and external challenges of all kinds. We've experienced catcalls, sister wounds, impostor syndrome, and limiting beliefs. But we also know how to problem solve, how to dig deep into ourselves to find our grit. We know the power and truth of women supporting women, and we recognize the value of leaning on our soul sisters for support.Part memoir, part collaboration, Writing HERstory portrays the many rites of passage of being a woman. Here, Ashley connects the dots of our stories to discover that while the pattern may change in its details and in female to female, the concrete evidence is the pattern starts with acknowledging and celebrating our own self-worth and the worth of all women. It's a new age of sisterhood.Ashley Lougheed is the CEO and founder of Girl Time Inc., a social club for women and women in business. Her mission is to create a community-a Kula-for women, one where they can collaborate and create lifelong friendships, live a healthy and active lifestyle, and inspire each other to grow both individually and as a whole. Ashley has a diverse education, including an honors degree in sociology, a bachelor of education, a degree in interior design, and a certificate in event planning. She lives in Ontario, Canada, with her husband, two children, and Doberman pup.

Writing HERstory is a book for anyone who has ever felt like their story isn’t one worth telling. What I admire most is that the inclusion of eighteen women made Lougheed’s memoir a dynamic read that allows the reader to find a part of themself in the collective. Despite the heavy subject matter, I found this to be an easy read. Lougheed’s writing is accessible and encourages readers from all backgrounds to take part in it. I’d recommend this book to anyone who has made it through a period of darkness. Your story is worth telling, no matter how big or small.

This book was so inspiring to read a true story of a woman who is making her way, while building a family and supporting her husband. Through hard times and loss of friends along the way, heartbreaking and uplifting.
