Social worker June Hunter races to find a loving adoptive family for a troubled teenage orphan before she ages out of the system. June supports the girl by teaching her how to trust, build healthy relationships, and prepare for an uncertain future. A Case of Peaches is set in the fascinating world of social workers, lawyers, cops, and needy kids.
Very good story with a very detailed and often times emotional look into our child welfare system; this is done very carefully so as not to overwhelm the reader but at the same time painting a picture of life for teens in the system.
This was a really well written book ! And as a so isl worker myself (mental health specialization) it was neat to see the POV of a DCFS/adoption/foster social worker.
Overall, I think this was a very sweet story. I liked how June and Flora’s stories aligned and they learned a lot from each other. My only complaint is that for much of the book, the writing felt very matter-of-fact rather than emotional, which made it a little harder for me to get excited about it. It’s definitely a great story and I learned a lot about the foster care system.
