Rate this book
Born into a family of immense power, Joneya always tried to avoid her destined path. When Sir Ned, a character dipped in importance and legacy, utters the four simple words 'I see you, Alder', it signifies recognition of her royal codename. She is Alder, a lineage that transcends the mere concept of royalty. Despite her lineage and inheritance, Joneya is a character grounded in reality. She harbors a preference for the real world over a royal throne, a trait that signifies her honesty and integrity. Such qualities enable her to earn the trust of every class of people and magical beings inhabiting her two worlds. Surprisingly, even a mermaid known for her murderous tendencies considers Joneya a friend. However, the impending Troubles pose a challenge that might be beyond her capabilities. Is she ready to face it, or will she falter? The kingdom holds its breath in anticipation.

I had a lovely time ARC reading this, it dragged me in so much I felt like I was there, watching the story play out.
This definitely gave me slight GOT & LOTR vibes. I can’t wait to see what will happen in the next book.

Joneya comes home one day to find cars and people waiting for her at her house. As soon as she see’s then she knows what’s going on. Joneya’s life and her family’s life is about to change, follow along and she just how much their life’s will change.
Whilst meeting a lot of other people along the way.

Can Joneya save her world and her family, whilst trying to keep peace. Can she unlock her full potential in her magic.
The way Joneya treats her staff and including the hand of the king, Sir Ned, will make you fall in love with her even more.
Find out if you’d rather live in Castle Draug or in House Isilme

I'm done with this book, and yet, I'm extremely confused as to what's going on. I don't feel that the characters or the Troubles are fully fleshed out. Yes, this is a novella, so some confusion is to be expected. But, I feel that this book would have been better served by being longer with more actual explanations instead of talking. That said, I'm curious to see how the next book will work. I do like the characters themselves and the spice. Those aspects are the reason I kept reading. I'm curious about Joneya and her family dynamics. As well as the relationship with her sister and her now deceased mother. I want more history as I feel that was lacking in this story.

I really enjoyed Through The Gate by Rachel Roy! When Joneya’s husband is abducted, she has to fully step into her role in the kingdom. She was born into a powerful family who has made lots of enemies although Joneya herself is well liked throughout the kingdom.
I really like all the various characters. I love the world that has been built so far and look forward to what Rachel creates next.

Magic. M/F. M/F/M/F.
Joneya had hidden from her true life for years. Now, it is on her doorstep and it is taking her family away from the only home they have known. Can she keep her family and her people safe from the Troubles?
I love the world-building that Rachel Roy is able to accomplish. Despite being a novella, you get a feel for the world in which the story takes place. The characters also have their own development. Joneya sees that she must work on her magic.
The spicy scenes are so very delicious. If you are looking for traditional adult scenes, then this book is not for you. Who does not love some spicy adventure?
GAH!!! These cliffhangers!! Rachel Roy is an amazing author. I cannot wait to see where this book goes from here!
