You are a member of England's Royal Navy, trying to rid the sea of pirates, OR... You are sailing on a merchant ship loaded with treasure, OR... You are a pirate, searching for riches and a better life.
Everything in this book happened to real people. And YOU CHOOSE what you do next. The choices you make could lead you to a life of luxury or a horrible death.
In You Choose Books, only YOU can CHOOSE the path you take through history. What will it be?
I like that this does a great job of introducing you to the history of the time period but putting you right in the center of things. I just wish this choose your own adventure book had more choices for each storyline.
The kids really liked this. It's a more historically realistic choose your own adventure, and there are some dark outcomes. It made them think about the realities of living as a pirate, merchant or naval officer in the late 1600s/1700s.
The interactive History books are written like a choose your own adventure books. The history comes alivea nd draws you into the excitement of surviving difficult situations. Who would not like to read about pirates?
If I’m being completely honest, I did not actually check this one out for my paper, I got it specifically because I love choose your own adventure books and I couldn’t resist being a pirate. 100% worth it.
An easy to read Choose-Your-Own-Adventure style series in which readers get to choose different paths through a time in history. In this book, you can choose to leave your orphan life to become a pirate, a navy sailor, or a merchant sailor. Each path involves some contact with real historical pirates and the lot of a sailor on the high seas. This set of adventures was fair, but not spectacular, though I still think those just beginning to interact with nonfiction will enjoy it. I'm hoping future nonfiction series will include more details about daily life, what was eaten and worn and what things look like.
This is such a fun way to learn new information! Kudos to the instigator of this innovative format for non-fiction material! In this Choose-your-own adventure-style book, the reader can learn about what it was like during the age of piracy. The author covers a host of option-paths for the reader to choose. Great for higher third through sixth grade readers.
