The magic of Christmas begins with a single snowflake and the jingling of sleighbells
Alfie Wayfarer and his family are made homeless a week before Christmas when a relative offers tham a lifeline - a property on the South Coast of England. Yet the mysteriously named 'Merry Wish Cottage' holds more than a few secrets.
It isn't long before unexplained and peculiar events around the cottage set the family on an adventure to save Christmas.
What a fun Christmas story this book turned out to be. So many Christmas books are romance but this is an adventure to save Christmas. This book is good for the whole family. In fact, this would be a great book to read to your kids or grandkids at bedtime throughout the month before Christmas to get them excited.
Merry Wish is a cabin on Samcritsh Bay. It is owned by the Wayfarer family. Alphie Wayfarer loses his job and his family has to find a new home . Bampa realizes Merry Wish is empty and they can live there. That’s when the magic begins. This story has elves, magic fairies, and snogers (snow ogres). The snogers want to end Christmas and the only ones that can prevent it are the Wayfarers. Will Santa be able to deliver toys to all the boys and girls around the earth or will it be gone forever? Read the book and find out.
Merry Wish begins with a great atmospheric sense of serious fantasy. For me, the introduction of some cute elements seemed a little jarring, but this is a Christmas book and may be intended for a younger audience, so these may feel appropriate to many. The ending is satisfying, as any good Christmas book should be. I think this author has a terror voice for serious fantasy and I hope to see more from Salter. While it has nothing to do with the quality of the story, I love the polar bear on the cover!
I absolutely fell in love with this book. So much fun to read and truly carried with it the magic of Christmas. Salter really has a way with story telling that puts you inside the adventure. Definitely recommend this book!!
