Rate this book
From Understanding Poverty to Developing Human Capacity details how schools, churches, courts, businesses, and communities can build resources for people in poverty. With nine articles written by Dr. Payne, along with two co-written with her colleague, Philip DeVol, these writings cover the gamut of Dr. Payne's efforts in dealing with poverty-related issues. This is a good book. Wasn’t exactly what I needed for my own work, but would be great for schools I still read it bc I’m interested in the topic. But I think what I’m really looking for is Another book by same folks: What Every Church Needs to Know About Poverty.

Stereotypes and anecdotal evidence and lack of research/peer review.

Excellent read. To understand our students, we must understand that money is just one of the many resources affected by poverty.

This compilation of texts takes a deep dive into the system of poverty and how it shapes public schools in the United States. It's a great resource in of itself; offering perspectives that speak to educational professionals, leaders, parents, and the students themselves.

Recommend for anyone.
