يعود الكاتب الإسباني خوان خوسيه مياس، أحد أبرز الروائيين الإسبان، برواية جديدة عنوانها “فلا أحد ينام”، مستعيرًا الاسم من إحدى مقطوعات بوتشيني الأوبرالية، التي تحكي أسطورة الأميرة “توراندوت”، إذ تقرر أن تقبل بالزواج من الشاب الذي يحل ألغازها الثلاثة، ومن يخفق تعلق رقبته على أسوار القصر، ليفوز بها كلاف في النهاية. ما بين الأغنية الأوبرالية والأسطورة، مع الهوس بشكل البشر الذين يشبهون الطيور، تدور أكثر روايات مياس رومانسية، وأكثرها اقترابًا من مشاعر الحب الهوسي.

His first novel was influenced by Julio Cortázar and consequently shows the influence of the then-prevalent literary experimentalism, as well as the uncertainty of a fledgling author. Although very original, his second book, Cerbero son las sombras (1975), obtained the Premio Sésamo and received a positive critical response.
Thanks to an enthusiastic member of the judges panel for the Premio Sésamo, Juan García Hortelano, he was able to publish Visión del ahogado (1977) and El jardín vacío (The empty garden) (1981) with the prestigious publisher Alfaguara. But his most popular novel was Papel mojado (1983), an assignment for a publisher of young adult literature that was a commercial success and continues to sell well. Simultaneously, he began to publish articles in the Spanish press with great success, so he left the employment of the Iberian press and now makes a living as a journalist and author.
In his numerous works, which are mostly psychological and introspective, any daily fact can become a fantastic event. He created his own personal literary genre, the articuento, in which an everyday story is transformed into a fantasy that allows the reader to see reality more critically. His weekly columns in El País have generated a great number of followers who appreciate the subtlety and originality of his point of view in dealing with current events, as well as his commitment to social justice and the quality of his writing. On the program La Ventana, on the channel Ser, he has a time slot (Fridays at 4:00) in which he encourages viewers to send short accounts about words from the dictionary. Currently, he is constructing a glossary, within which these accounts have a large role. His works have been translated into 23 languages, among them: English, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, and Dutch. In his 2006 novel, titled Laura y Julio, we find his principal obsessions expressed: the problem of identity, symmetry, other inhabitable spaces within our space, love, fidelity, and jealousy.

فلا أحد ينام هو اسم مستوحى من مقطوعة أوبرالية لبوتشيني، ومن خلالها ندخل باب هذه الرواية، لنتعرف على عالمها المجنون والمياسي. فبطلة الرواية "لوثيا" التي كانت تعمل في شركة برمجة حاسوب، وطردتها الشركة رفقة زملاؤها بسبب إفلاسها وسوء إدارة مُديرها، فقررت تغيير عملها إلى سائقة تاكسي، تتجول في العاصمة مدريد، وصدقني لن تكون هذه الغرابة الوحيدة في الرواية.
فـ"لوثيا" تشعر بأن في هذا العام سيحدث شيئاً ما، لأنه أصبح عمرها في نفس عمر والدتها عندما توفت، وليست وفاة عادية، ولكنها أيضاً وفاة سريالية لها تأثيرها على الأحداث، ترى "لوثيا" النحيفة الخادعة كما وصفت نفسها، أنها يُمكنها التحول إلى طائر، وأحياناً تفعل ذلك وتتصرف وفقاً لذلك! تُحب "لوثيا" الأوبرا وهو شيء ورثته من والدها، رغم أنها لا تفهم حرفاً من كلماتها، ولكنها تنجذب للموسيقى وتبكي، لو ركبت معها التاكسي في أي وقت، ستجد مقطوعة "فلا أحد ينام" تصدح في السيارة، بل وستجدها متأثرة بها إلى درجة وضع مكياج لتقترب من بطلة المقطوعة الصينية، وتتخيل أنها في بكين، وتضع موقع خريطة سيارتها على أنه الصين!
نتعرف من خلال الأحداث واستدعاء الماضي تاريخ حياتها، ماضيها المؤلم بدرجاته، وحاضرها الذي يتخلله الوحدة والصمت، تتعلق "لوثيا" بجارها الممثل المسرحي، ولكنه يختفي فجأة وتقضي رحلة طويلة للبحث عنه، ولكن عليها الاستعداد للحظة لقاؤه، فتقوم ببعض الترتيبات، ليكون لقائهم مُميزاً لا يُنسى، وقد كان.
ختاماً..
رواية "فلا أحد ينام" هي من أفضل قراءاتي لمياس، من أول صفحة سيجذبك عالمها، ستحبها وتتعاطف مع بطلتها "لوثيا"، ستضحكك الرواية في أوقات كثيرة، وتُبكيك في أوقات كثيرة، وستظل الأحداث مُمتعة ومشوقة، وستكون متلهفاً لإنهائها، ولكن بمجرد أن تنتهي منها، لن يتملكك إلا الدهشة، بسبب نهاية، لا يُمكن وصفها إلا بجنون، وطالما حضر مياس، جاء الجنون معه.
مياس كاتب مجنون، ونحن نحبه لجنانه، ولكن هنا في "فلا أحد ينام"، ستجد رواية مؤلمة ومرحة ومبكية وبكل تأكيد ستدهشك.

Algo va a suceder...
La esencia del libro es exactamente lo que yo me imaginaba, con algunas extravagancias más. Es una historia de romance bastante picante que roza lo bizarro y lo fantástico, y a pesar de que en el desarrollo no se deja entrever, conserva una generosa cuota de horror bastante visceral llegando al final (claramente mi parte predilecta). Me resultó entretenido, una lectura ligera y apropiada para empezar con el autor.

Lucía is not your average taxi driver. Having lost her job at an IT firm, she swiftly adapts to the situation by earning a taxi driving license and starts a different life. She also swiftly adopts an obsession for her neighbor who is a moderately well-known actor in Madrid and enjoys loudly listening to Puccini’s Turandot in his apartment. After he moves out, she centers her life around the idea of one day driving him as a client, but until that day comes she has many other encounters with all sorts of people. Driving around the city dressed and made up as Puccini’s titular Chinese princess, she sinks so deep into her own powerful imagination, her make-believe world that when she finally bumps into cold-hearted reality and betrayal, her reaction will be equally powerful and cruel.
Lucía is not your average taxi driver and she isn’t your average main character either. Her childhood experiences which convince her she has a connection to a certain bird, the incorporating of the bird motive into her present life, she herself and her animal side reflected in this bird – all this makes a very singular character who on my part, needed some getting used to. I soon rooted for her, though, and seriously enjoyed her abrupt descent into darkness.
Let No One Sleep is full of iconic scenes; it is visceral, speaks to your senses; it is music, rot and gore, evil, innocence, theater, life galore. I just loved this different and original take on horror, this little story of the making of a monster.

Juan José Millás ha escrito una novela repleta de imaginación en la que se desdibujan los límites marcados entre lo real y lo ficticio y con una prosa impecable y de las más interesantes que el lector se puede encontrar en una novela.

The 2017-2018 concert season of the Detroit Symphony Opera concluded with a performance of Puccini’s Turnadot. Maestro Slatkin suffered a serious health crisis, and Jader Bignamini replaced him. Bignamini was such a hit, he was hired as the new director to replace the retiring Slatkin.
It was a marvelous experience. I finally heard the famous Nessun Dorma performed live. But…the opera’s story left me disconcerted. Turnadot is a beautiful princess who is determined she will not be possessed by a man. Suitors must answer riddles, and if they fail, they are ruthlessly put to death. Into town comes a deposed ruler and his son, who goes by the name of Calaf. Calaf fails in love–or, lust–when he sees Turnadot and determines he will possess her. When he is able to answer the riddles, he offers Turnadot an out: if she can guess his identity before daybreak, she can put him to death. That night, no one in the city can sleep, and Calaf sings the famous aria where he imagines daybreak fulfilling his dream of posessing Turnadot. Yes, it’s a story of the sexual obsession of an ice princess, a male fantasy of desire.

Lucia has little interest in opera, but hearing Nessum Dorma waft up through the floorboards, she fantasizes about the man living below her. She goes to his door and is smitten. He looks like a bird man to her. He tells her his name is Calaf. Then, he moves out.
Lucia has a thing about birds, ever since she received a bird named Calaf for a birthday present. She saw her mother’s decline and death, bringing on the appearance of a bird. She becomes obsessed with Nessun Dorma, applies makeup to look like the Chinese princess Turnadot, and dreams of a sexual encounter with the man.
After losing her job, Lucia becomes a taxi driver. She tells her tale of obsessions to one of her customers who says she knows the man and that he is an actor. Lucia is convinced that fate will bring them together, that some day he will get into her taxi. She goes to great lengths to be prepared for their sexual union.
That doesn’t stop her from bedding other men in the meantime. Driving her taxi around Madrid, using a map of Beijing while she imagines she is in China, she meets quite a number of men.
Real doesn’t mean realistic. More than that, a real work of art should not be realistic. Reality and realism have nothing to do with each other, though most people get the two mixed up.

Lucia’s obsession reflects Calaf’s sexual obsession in Turnadot, and her angry last acts reflects Turnadot’s ruthlessness.

Lucía pierde su trabajo como programadora informática y decide hacerse taxista. Recorrerá las calles de Madrid esperando que, en algún momento, el hombre del que se ha enamorado suba a su coche mientras en el vehículo suena el Nessum Dorma de Turandont.
La novela lleva menos de un mes en la calle. Novela corta y de rápida lectura. La primera capa de la lectura te lleva a un relato hilarante, muy muy divertido, con un final totalmente brutal e inesperado. Profundizando un poco más la novela habla realmente de la reinvención de la persona, de los estafadores profesionales que nos rodean, de los vampiros que pueblan nuestra sociedad y que, henchidos de prepotencia, beben la sangre de los incautos; y de la psicopatía, que está más cerca, mucho más cerca de lo que creemos.
Nunca te fíes de un mujer taxista si antes fue programadora. Conozco a una ;-)

Lucía se ha quedado sin empleo, y se ha dedicado a ser taxista. Lucía es también una falsa delgada, una mujer-pájaro, que se ha quedado embriagada por la ópera Turandot, de Puccini, y por el encuentro efímero con el hombre que se la hizo conocer. Y así maneja por Madrid, como si manejara por Pekín, donde transcurre originalmente la ópera.
Un novela muy creativa, narrada impecablemente por Millás, y con un excelente toque de humor, a veces oscuro.

4.5 Este libro me lo recomendó una mujer pájaro.
Es una obra de teatro, una opera, una tragedia, una comedia, algo trepidante, pero sobre todo una historia de amor fallido muy fácil y entretenida de leer. Buen libro y no será el único que lea de Millás.

Siempre entro con sospechas a un libro escrito por un hombre haciendo el papel de una mujer, y en este caso creo que Millás tira mucho de clichés y lugares comunes. Creo que no es lo mejor de este escritor, y que si no hubiera tenido el final que tuvo hubiera sido bastante decepcionante. (2.5)

Muchos son los libros que he leído de Juan José Millás. Algunos me han gustado y otros me han parecido una verdadera pérdida de tiempo como fue el Premio Planeta. No obstante, con este libro tengo sentimientos encontrados y es que por un lado se me hizo algo monótono y muy sencillo en cuanto a estilo narrativo pero creo que el personaje de la protagonista está muy bien trabajado y construido y lo que más me ha gustado ha sido el giro argumental del final con ese toque gótico y terrorífico que no te esperas para nada. Lo recomiendo para alguien que quiera una lectura sencilla pero no demasiado mascada.

Es una mezcla de ficción realista con la magia de la fábula que envuelve al lector en una especie de viaje surrealista, al estilo conocido e inigualable de Juan José Millás. “Que nadie duerma” es una historia que comienza en apariencia con un personaje común y corriente y que luego nos transporta a un mundo perturbador: una historia de obsesión, soledad y amor con espeluznantes elementos de terror.
Lucía, la falsa delgada y la mujer pájaro, es la protagonista del relato, y su vida transcurre entre lo plausible y el mundo interno y desconocido de los traumas de su mente. Su aventura empieza cuando decide hacer un cambio de rumbo en su vida laboral tras ser despedida de una firma donde se desempeñaba como programadora para convertirse en una taxista en Madrid. Poco después, Lucía se enamora de su misterioso vecino que escucha incesantemente, Nessun Dorma, el aria del acto final de la famosa ópera “Turandot” de Puccini, cuya música le llega a través de las rendijas de la ventilación. Lucía tiene un encuentro breve con Braulio Botas, quien pronto abandona el edificio, y así empieza la obsesión de Lucía por recogerlo fortuitamente en su taxi en algún lugar de Madrid para ver cumplidos sus sueños de amor. Lectura interesante hasta que la obsesión que tiene como eje principal se va de la mano y se torna un relato mágico-terrorífico que no se veía venir. Es como leer dos relatos totalmente diferentes, y no lo digo como un punto a favor de la novela.
También cabe mencionar que me chirría mucho que la protagonista modifique totalmente su personalidad, apariencia y gustos en base a un hombre al que vio una vez, me tira muchísimo para atrás y me hacía revolverme en el asiento cada vez que leía algún pasaje relacionado con eso.

Si tuviera que definirlo en una palabra sería alucinante, el autor da muestra de una imaginación desbordada.

Lectura del mes de agosto del club de lectura "La Luciérnaga" (4)
Este mes nos hemos decidido por el escritor Juan José Millás y una de sus novelas más recientes. Si no fuese por el grupo de lectura nunca lo hubiese leído porque es uno de esos autores que no me llama nada la atención.
Esta novela breve nos cuenta la historia Lucía y su nueva vida siendo taxista en Madrid. Puede parecer una historia corriente, pero esto no queda así. Lucía tiene una visión muy particular sobre las personas, siempre les atribuye alguna característica aviar debido a una obsesión de la infancia e inculcada por su ya fallecida madre. Su obsesión por los pájaros y por una ópera, Turandot, son los dos puntos claves que van marcando el tempo de toda la historia.
Aunque el personaje de Lucía tenga mucha personalidad, es muy evidente que está escrito por un hombre, y eso a veces me hacía desconectar de la historia. El libro está lleno de muchas referencias sexuales innecesarias o mal ejecutadas. También hay partes de la trama importantes sin cerrar y un final demasiado precipitado. El giro final no era mucha cosa y se queda un poco insulso, cortando la parte de intriga.
Aunque me ha gustado la originalidad en algunos puntos, como integra muy bien el mundo de la ópera y el teatro al personaje de Lucía y lo rápido que se lee, la novela es muy normalita y no sé si seguiré leyendo a este autor ya que no me ha cautivado.

Desgarro de locura... En shock. ¿Que define lo cotidiano de lo excéntrico o irreal? Perturbador a la vez que cómico. Genial !!

Me dio mucha emoción reencontrar a Juan José Millás, de quien sólo había leído Desde la sombra, una novela que me había dejado con ganas de más, pero hasta ahora no me había dado el tiempo. Hay algo en este escritor que me recuerda mucho a Emmanuel Carrère, con el mismo grado de locura, pero tres tonos de oscuridad más abajo y con sentido del humor. En un mundo paralelo hay una novela sobre Jean-Claude Romand escrita por Millás y es padrísima.
Esta novela me pareció espectacular. Incluye aves de todos tipos, ópera y un taxi. La recomiendo infinito a quien quiera leer algo ligero, divertido, un poco retorcido y muy veloz.

No había leído antes a Millás y me ha sorprendido gratamente, la forma de escribir, suave pero directa, nombrando las cosas como son pero sin caer en los vulgarismos y la historia que cuenta no te deja indiferente. Me ha gustado (y sorprendido) la forma de ser de Lucía y su obsesión me ha chocado, pero el resto de los personajes también actúan de una forma que te deja pensando, no cuento nada, solo que, si queréis leer más, lo leáis, no es muy largo.

I N C R E I B L E. No tengo palabras para describirlo. Llevaba tiempo sin que un libro me enganchara tanto. Sólo 5 días he tardado en leerlo con el poco tiempo que tengo. Qué personajes tan bien elaborados. Lo que tengo claro es que voy a seguir leyendo a Millás porque leerlo es volar a otros mundos a ras del suelo.

Es la primera vez que leo un libro de Millás, es un libro tan bien escrito que no te deja ninguna duda sobre lo que esta narrando. La descripción de la mujer pájaro están precisa que te involucras, en la historia totalmente. Un libro recomendado al 100%.

Esta novela es un gran ejemplo del estilo de Millás, a ratos te ríes a carcajadas, a ratos la risa se congela en una mueca de asombro. No deja de sorprender durante toda la lectura y la protagonista nunca te cae bien pero tampoco mal, así de bien está construido el personaje

رواية مجنونة ، أخرج مياس جنونه و إبداعه في آنٍ واحد . سلطت الرواية الضوء على فكرة الخيال و الواقع ، و ما الفرق بينهم ؟ و هل من الممكن أن نحول الخيال لحقيقة كما تخيلناه ؟
أفرد مياس أدواته الكتابية في السرد حيث التنقل بين عالمين ؛ عالم صنع من خيال “لوثيا” أي ما يدور في عقلها من أفكار بالأخص تأثرها بأوبرا “توراندوت “ ، أغنية” فلا أحد ينام” و هي عبارة عن أسطورة لأميرة من الصين “تفاصيل الأسط��رة/ الحكاية ص١٠١ . أما العالم الآخر هو العالم الحقيقي الذي تعيش فيه، محاولةً منها قبس الخيال إليه ليصبح حقيقة .
مقولة صديق لها في الرواية: “عندما تتمكنين من تخيل ما تفعلين أو فعل ما تتخيلين ، بشكل فوري ، سيختفي القلق من حياتك . لقد كنت قلقا” جدا” من قبل، و تخليت عن قلقي” .
تكرار كلمة “شيء ما سيحدث” ، إشارة لتصديق الخيال ممكن أن يكون حقيقة حين نؤمن به .
الواقعية السحرية أخذت نصيبا” كبيرا” من الرواية بجسد الطائر و روحه . وجدنا الطائر في “كلاف” مرة على شكل إنسان جاراً لها و مرة أخرى طائر صغير في قفص تعتني به . شعور لوثا بأنها طائر في كثير من الفقرات ثم تحولت لنسر لتدل على التحرر من أفكارها في نهاية الرواية و أنها قدرت تدمج الواقع من الخيال في نقطة متوحدة . آخر شيء أود التذكرة به ،هو دخول الطائر في جسد أمها في أول الرواية .
عنصر التشويق جاء عالي جداً في الرواية . جعلني أنتظر النهاية بلهفة.
النهاية جاءت مجنونة و غير متوقعة . لتثبت “لوثيا” أن الخيال ممكن أن يكون حقيقة حين نصدقه أو ممكن يلتقيا في نقطة واحدة و هي الحاضر .
عمل مجنون ، أستطاع مياس التحرر من أي قيود تعيق الكتابة .

Este libro es muy bueno. No sé si excelente, pero seguro que muy bueno. Es tan bueno que es de los que cuando los terminas de leer, te dan ganas de ponerles 5 estrellitas aunque no lo merezcan por que en realidad no lo son lo suficiente como para —por ejemplo— querer leerlos por segunda ocasión.
En fin, no veo la hora de que sea el futuro para regresar a esta no-reseña para no-ponerle la calificación que realmente se no-merece. 4 estrellitas.
Por lo demás, diré que el autor es un genio por que —si es como me lo dijo en aquella ocasión en que charlé con él en persona— ha escrito una novela que tiene un gran ritmo, una gran intensidad y una abrazadora banda sonora, de una forma completamente armónica y desprovista de opinión. Mi esposo chino dice que todo cierra como una cajita china y yo le creo (aunque yo no sepa bien qué es una cajita china).

Ojalá que pronto salga la película española para que luego se haga una remake gringa para ver a Anne Hataway haciendo de Sarah y a Adrien Body haciendo de John Boots.
En fin, no veo la hora de que sea el futuro para regresar a esta no-reseña para no-ponerle la calificación que realmente se no-merece. 4 estrellitas.
