Doctor Dolittle Stories

Rate this book
Eight complete stories about the famous Doctor who could talk to the animals. An excellent introduction which highlights all the most memorable incidents: the way he realises his gifts with animals, his meeting with the Pushmi-Pullyu, and how he sets off to sea. His is an entrancing world and the reader is soon involved with all the animal characters, Gub-Gub the pig, Jip the Dog, Too Too the owl. A fine omnibus edition.

A delightful children's tale that provides fun for all despite strong themes about money.

The three stars are not for the work of Hugh Lofting, who told marvelous stories I enjoyed very much as a child, but rather for the way this book is presented. It's a best of, apparently, but it isn't in chronological order at all, and some stories cut off halfway through. I might have been better off with an actual book, but I didn't know this was a best of when I began.
