In spite of it's errors in both text and illustration this was an okay book. I think I may have expected more from it. The illustrations were pretty cool to look at. The text was okay. I think I was expecting more of an explanation and insight then there was. Over all I would say this book is a nice coffee table book that's good to flip through and a nice conversation piece. I don't think I would suggest this book for my friends. I would probably flip through it with kids to show them some example of Leonardo's works and explain some of the workings to them. As everyone else wrote, the illustrations are the high light of the book.

Lovingly written and beautifully illustrated, this book is a must have for enthusiasts of the genius. This is the first book I found that went into mechanical detail, including schematics and cutaways, of many of Da Vinci's less famous designs, including theatrical machines, hydraulics, and musical instruments. Not only did I devour it without sleeping, but have referenced it multiple times in my own work. I found it very entertaining and accessible.

Bellissimo volume, che contiene tutti i disegni con le relative descrizioni e spiegazioni e i progetti delle macchine inventate e in parte realizzate dal genio di Leonardo da Vinci.

Ci si meraviglia ogni volta che si riprende in mano questo libro, realizzato benissimo e molto curato, dal smisurato genio rinascimentale che fu un pittore, ingegnere e scienziato italiano. Uomo d'ingegno e talento universale del Rinascimento, incarnò in pieno lo spirito della sua epoca.
