Wow... This was a fuckin brutal, gritty, raw and just a all around bad ass fucking read. With a ending that smacks ya so hard your ears ring leaving you looking around like what the fuck just happened. Stuart Bray is a bad ass writer that pulls no punches and is very vivid and raw in this one..... Just a fuckin awesome story highly recommend

Lester is fed up. After the loss of his father and his long time girlfriend, he’s had enough of his insane mother, perverted uncle and the crooked town sheriff. He wants a better life for him and his sister Beth. He also wants revenge. If you’ve read any of Bray’s work then you are expecting extreme. Now don’t get me wrong, this story is packed with vile characters and extreme twists. This being Bray’s debut I may have to say it is my favorite of his work so far.

Stuart Bray has become one of my all time favorite authors and I am making my way through his beautifully, talented and down right evil thoughts! This one here hit a little different, his characters always grab me and dig their sharp claws until I finish the last page. In the confines of this spiral you get grief, violence, vengeance and sadness wrapped around relatable characters in such a real setting. He brought suspense to the Oddities he writes and he pulled it off beautifully. If you're looking for a book that will have you route for someone and get a mad at him, yet at the same time to turn around and gasp then give this little gem a go. Coming in at about 100 pages you will blink and be done due to how fast you will turn or flip the pages. 🤘

Great novella. I've been slowly working through Bray's library. Gritty and mean. I did not expect the story to go where it did.

Well, wasn’t that a mindfuck. What an unreliable narrator! I’m very surprised I liked this novella. It’s the first book from this author I’ve actually enjoyed - I disliked two of them before this and almost gave him up. The writing was alright and the story was kinda decent. A win in my book.

This was everything I want in a story! The characters, the development, the twists. I loved it.
My only negative would be the author getting characters names mixed up. Kenny turned into Lenny for a while then back to Kenny. At the end, the names Beth and Heather got swapped around a few times which was a little confusing.
But for the most part, this was absolutely fantastic.

This , if I'm not mistaken was my first encounter with Stuart Bray , i may have read a short story or two, i read a lot of horror anthros.
I picked this up on a Jason Nicky deep dive, but I will be coming back for Bray, this was brutal, compelling, and hard to read, but I couldn't stop.
This was a isolated, fucked up town story at its absolute freaking best, I thought I had read everything like this , until i found this.
You have given me hope, for small town, fucked up horror again.
Start to finish, i read it in one sitting.
I am still trying to wrap my head around how dark this was.

Lester David Splats lives in Madison County. Ever since the sawmill closed down, it has been falling apart. Most have left town, but those who stay will probably suffer the same fate. Plagued by drifters and a corrupt sheriff, the town is slowly wasting away. Every day is a fight for survival.
This was an amazing read. The twists and turns will spin your head until you reach the powerhouse of an ending. Raw, heartbreaking, and emotional. Bray pulls no punches. An absolute must-read. Don't miss it.

Lester lives in a remote Kansas town. He is jobless, was abused by his mom, and feels like he is stuck in life a series of events take place and you see a whole new perspective of Lester Stewart Bray is one of my most favorite new authors. I can’t wait to read more from him!

Jesus. I think this is my first five star. It's a good read, quick read but fucking good! Usually with books towards the end I have an idea of what's going to happen. Not here, not this one.

My favorite of Bray's books so far. This story caught me completely off guard and kept me guessing. Dark, gritty, and psychological.
