While he is stalking her, he has slept with OW (off page) to get rid of his pent-up frustration… 🥴 and I thought this was a safe read because the author said so.😤🤡
Here is the scene where I decided to DNF it:
“Kyle shakes his head and laughs. "You know I'm kidding," he says, trying to calm the rising tension between us. "But it does sound like you need to blow off some steam; why don't you call one of your escorts and clear your head before you do the job?"
As if I hadn't thought of that myself... it’s simple, pent-up sexual frustration that fuels my obsession. But it isn't. I tried, and nothing has changed, except that it got worse. In the middle of the act, I started comparing the escort to Evelyn, her beauty, the way she carried herself, absolutely everything. I couldn't even finish without imagining her. But there is no way I’m going to admit that to Kyle. "No need for that. I will get it done just fine.” I stomp out the rest of my cigarette in the ashtray on the railing.”
I absolutely hate it when the MMC gets with OW to get rid of his frustration, only to realize later that the h is the one for him. 🤦🏽♀️🤡🤬and I don’t give a shit if they haven’t met yet, especially while he’s stalking her and is supposed to be “obsessed”. He should have kept it in his pants.😒🙄

September 16, 2024AVOID. Author said this is safe but it is NOT. According to fangirls, "safe" only includes cheating AFTER MCs are in a relationship. Had anyone done their homework and actually looked up what Safety means to Safe Readers then the OP sex scenes would be right upfront and center - even when "scenes" are not detailed but mentioned.
The point is MMC in this story f**s OW (a whore I believe) while obsessing over FMC. This is the scene in which in Miki's review every snowflake is attacking her because they consider the book safe as MMC was not in a relationship at that time with FMC. Like it matters. LOL

Another debut novel just smashing it out of the park this year!
Mr & Mrs Smith is one of my favourite movies, and this book absolutely gave me those vibes!
This was an action packed ride from the very beginning, that held you captivated until the end.
Noah truly gives off Stalker book boyfriend vibes and Evelyn is a bada$s strong FMC that you truly fall in love with. Together? Hot!!!

I got the book as an Arc Reader !
My opinion:
I was really hyped for the book because I love Dark Romance books and now with an additional Hitman topic? Hell yes. So we get to know Evelyn who is the current target of hitman Noah and their relationship begins with her receiving suspicious packages from him. From the start I was right into the story and I love Avery’s writing style. I inhaled the story and it only took me 3 days to finish the book.
You change between their two pov’s in the storyline, which made it really interesting and exciting to follow.
As the story goes on you definitely feel the spark between the two protagonists and I was curious how it’ll continue and what the background of the story is.
I enjoyed the dark atmosphere but in my opinion it could have been even darker. There was one chase which I really enjoyed and I was hoping for more scenes like this regarding the cover text.
I liked the development in Evelyn’s and Noah’s relationship and also the humor really got me, which made it so easy and enjoyable to read, though I am not sure if Noah got too soft at a certain point cause damn in my eyes he has husband potential for sure ! So yeah, maybe everyone needs a Noah.
Towards the end you will find out why Noah got the order to hunt down Evelyn and what’s behind the whole thing. To me it was not that surprising but it was still very nicely build up.
My conclusion:
A very good book which you cannot lay out of your hands. Avery managed to fully pull me into the world she created and with every page I read I got deeper and deeper into the story.
My only criticism is that the book could have been way darker. The cover text promises a possessive story with a lot of Trigger Warnings. Not sure if I read too much of this genre or if I am just dead inside. Nevertheless I am SO looking forward to the next part because I can’t wait to know what’s gonna happen with Evelyn and Noah.

This is Avery’s debut novel? Excuse me? How? I ate this up. It was entertaining, the cat and mouse games were exquisite. The mind games; the gifts Noah left Evelyn, how she wouldn’t let herself coward in front of him and she would fight. How he absolutely relished in it. Honestly, it was pretty fun. Oh so fun.
What’s different from this hitman romance is that Evelyn, despite her line of previous work, has remained ‘’soft’’. As Noah eloquently put it, ‘’To me, you’re like a white dove in a world of crows.’’ And boy is he obsessed with doves, not that the dove in question dislikes the unwavering attention. And Noah? I got me (another) book boyfriend. ‘’His actions are an odd mix of concern and cruelty, and I can’t make sense of him.’’ Girl, you don’t need to. To have that feared man at your feet? Use him however you want and enjoy for us.
I appreciated the overall pace. Altough when Noah actually brings her to his house, the tension that we previously had at the beginning of the book dims slightly, only to pick up again eventually after a couple of chapters.
I can’t wait for the sequel, even if I’m somehow nervous about it.

White Wings of Desire by Avery Conner
This book has a lot of trigger warnings that are stated in the very beginning of the book. I will state a few that I felt were super alarming to me: blood, genital mutilation, graphic violent scenes, sex with a sleeping body and more.
This was an ARC read for me, my review is a couple weeks late since the book has now been published, my apologies but this book definitely gave me a little of Haunting Adeline but like a knockoff version. I would say I'm still new to dark romance, but this was more of gore than dark in my opinion. The mmc was very gross, his so-called love for the fmc was more of possessiveness and control. I usually love a mmc with that attitude in a dark romance book but the fmc literally had no personality. I mean they are both hitmen's and even though she left that filled of work you would think she would put up more of a fight and have more dominance over the mmc.
The author basically wrote Evelyn (fmc) to use her sex appeal to get out of Noah's (mmc) hit list. While the concept is great, it was just too easily for her even though her personality lacked a lot because she basically does everything he says and puts up no fight at all. I wish Evelyn's personality was a little more dominant and not just allowing Noah literally to call all the shots the entire book.
The blood scenes that were also with the spicy scenes turned me off a lot! I think if the author would have made the blood and violent acts in the spicy scene more imaginable it could have kept me intrigued reading the entire scenes. They were a lot for my mind. I will most likely read the second book coming out because authors improve over time, and I think this series could be even better as long as Evelyn's personality grows more bad ass!

I've been saying it a lot lately, but haven't read a book with a storyline quite like this before. Yay!
They're both professional unalivers. She's now retired and he's the best in business. He's never missed a shot, it's why he's the best. Until he does....he was her mark.
The only issue I had with this book is that it's a series so it ends openly and I need to know what happens next!

White Wings of Desire was AMAZING!! I loved the dynamic between Evelyn and Noah and how we could see it develop as each page passed by. I enjoyed seeing the relationship grow and change through the smallest aspects of each of their personalities.
Overall, a great read full of sizzling tension, gory details and spice that will have you drooling!!

First of all I want to thank Avery for letting me join her as an ACR on the amazing step of publishing her first book!!!!
So what is this book about?
An ex-hitwoman tries to live a normal life but gets interrupted by the little fact that a hitman has her as his target. While trying to figure out his approach to complete his job he starts to want to do more than just see her unalive.
It's a dark romance, go figure out the rest - or if you can't - read the book. You should either way.
I really liked the flow and easy to read writing style. The pace was well timed, important or interesting scenes got the time they deserved while others didn't drag on unnecessarily. The main characters where over all very enjoyable, I just got a bit into rolling my eyes at how self assured Evelyn was about "I'm a pro after all" when in reality she became very rusty in my eyes. But I liked both of their general ideologies, Humor and how they stood their grounds. I have to admit that my favorite character however is Noah's housekeeper ;)
I got into the book fairly fast and finished it in just two days, after a lot of eye rolling from my buddy partner - just for her to finish it almost as fast 😂
My only "problem" with the book is that as for a "dark romance" book it felt like it wasn't .... dark enough. Of course we have the whole unaliving people business - but that's just a job. Overall it felt a bit more like Mr. and Mrs. Smith, light and gentle, the relationship almost too healthy. Which is not to say that dark romance has to contain SA or anything, but some scenes could have just used a bit more darkness. Therefore the reduction of one star.
Conclusion: A really great debut that leaves me waiting impatiently for the second book!

WHEWEEEEEE Spicy, action packed, character driven with amazing plot, and such a sweet (?) story! Evelyn and Noah have some rough spots, as he is trying to take her down as a target. But, with obsession comes possession and once Noah has her in his clutches he doesn’t intend to let her go! My goodness! I genuinely loved this, and was so happy h snagged it from STKD 2024 :D I devoured this book and there were really no parts I hated besides the doves :( (warning: deaths of animals) but- the way Noah treats Evelyn is so contradicting but so sweet! Threatening to killer while running his fingers through her hair and kissing her? I mean… 👀 and is fine with cuddling?? Help’s with MENSTRUATION?? HELLO!?!?! He’s a green flag for sure!!
Spice was spicy and we all need some milk after reading those scenes. The first spicy scene was actually kinda funny, but then they just got more and more spicy by the chapter (not every chapter lol but yk) LOVED IT!! I hope to read the second one soon!!

I absolutely adored this book.
Everything about the way that Noah and Evelyn balance each other out appeals to me.
Noah is really freaking unhinged and I love that about him. I love that his one weakness is her.
Their connection is instant and even though he's hired to take her out, he just couldn't help falling for her.
I appreciate that Eve wants to leave the business while she still can but I don't see that happening while her and Noah are together.
I am looking forward to the next installment so we can learn more about Noah and maybe Kyle too (I'm feeling a standalone series in the works).
The story really did appeal to my particular taste with enough action, comedy, twisted darkness and spice. I really like that the comedy didn't take away from the serious and disturbed nature that is Noah though because he really is dangerous and walks a very sharp edge of insanity and obsession.

I had a lot of fun reading this ARC. I mean , who do not enjoy a story about an ex hit woman and the most notorious hit man/serial killer trying to kill each other but then fall hopelessly in love? I loved the exchanges between the FMC & MMC. I loved the story and the pace as well. A solid 4 stars and cannot wait to read more from this author!

This was a really interesting read, it was definitely different to anything I’ve read so far. I loved that the fmc was a strong and independent woman and a hitman as well. I loved that mmc was unhinged but yet still a big teddy bear.
The character development was really well done. Their backgrounds were kind of vague but it didn’t really affect much of the storyline. He has a bit of a reaction to something she tells him later on that doesn’t make a lot of sense given that he’s a hitman and would’ve seen it all but this reaction hints at something in his past that could have caused it but it’s never really discussed which is a shame. Her background is also quite vague in terms of where and why she got into being a hitman. Overall their development was fairly well done with their in monologues and through the story.
The plot focuses a lot on his job being a hitman and her being his target. The push and pull of that dynamic is super interesting to read about. Her fear but also her desire, him never knowing what he should do with her. It’s a very interesting dynamic and it makes things super spicy when they do give into their passions.
With that being said their chemistry is so super spicy and I wish we had have gotten to see more of it. More of their interactions when they weren’t supposed to be together. Once there was no risk, they kind of lost that high level spice dynamic. Their chemistry was still good but it kind of felt too easy and their spark kind of fizzled with the exception of a few small scenes. So in terms of spice it’s about a 3.5/5, scenes aren’t super frequent but there was a few scenes throughout which are spaced pretty well throughout.
Overall, I did really enjoy this read, the dynamic is really fun and I would love to see more from these two. I would love to see more of her hitman side and see how that affects their dynamic and how his mentality would play out in the calmed version of their lives. It was a great read and was a little dark of you enjoy that plus spice and tension, it makes for a fantastic book. I would definitely recommend this as a 4/5 book.

Author Avery Conner hit the mark on her debut novel. I’d give it 4.5⭐️ and 3.5🌶️

The prologue sets the stage for Eve’s mindset. She just wants a normal life and she’s worked hard to earn it. As a reader around her age, I get it. Unfortunately and unbeknownst to her, this last job puts her in the sights of the infamous White Dove Killer as the story starts.
Supposed to be a simple job, Noah is blindsided when he doesn’t have all the details. He fails, not something he’s used to, but she captures his attention. Her purity reminds him of his doves, something not found in their line of work. He becomes torn between what he’s being paid to do and what he wants to do.
Their first face to face meeting is filled with adrenaline, passion and surprisingly trust. For two people in the same world but so different, it was sweet to see their trust from early on.
However, this gets put to the test when Noah thinks she’s running. This tips him over the edge and he wants to finish this. But Eve’s done her homework, and in the end Noah just wants her.

Again, I understand where Eve is coming from as they try to build their relationship. She’s always known what she wants but has never been able to obtain it easily. Now it’s fallen in her lap, does she believe it?

The touch her and die vibe had me swooning. The passion and intensity of their feelings and situation had me in a chokehold.. And don't get me started on the spicy scenes 🥵
This is written in dual POV, my favourite! I enjoyed the writing style, nothing was rushed, a lot of details going into each scene/ chapter. I was gripped from the first page! This was such a good read!!

White Wings of Desire is a dark romance novel with intense themes and characters that may not be suitable for all readers. Please check the trigger warnings before reading. Having said that, I LOVED this book! It was hot and dark and sexy and gave me Mr. & Mrs. Smith (movie) vibes. The FMC and MMC had instant sizzling chemistry and I was here for it!
The story features Evelyn Black, a former assassin entangled with a notorious hitman known as the White Dove Killer, who has been contracted to kill her. As Evelyn tries to escape her own violent past, she learns she is targeted by Noah, the White Dove Killer. Despite his dangerous intentions, there's undeniable chemistry between the two, leading to a very complex relationship fueled by mutual seduction.
Without going into spoilers, we soon find out if Noah is going to follow through on his contract to kill Evelyn. The story ends with some unresolved issues, setting the stage for a continuation in the next book. This book hooked me from the beginning and I cannot wait for the next one.

I absolutely loved this book. You would never know it’s a debut novel just from how good it is. It’s been about a week since I’ve read it and I can’t for the life of me stop thinking about it!! Had me going through all the emotions.☺️
Pros:
-Great plot with the right amount of spice!
-The character development, seeing the characters grow as themselves plus as a couple ughh had me swooning!
-The FMC Evelyn is a badass and honestly very likable

I enjoyed this book and I would definitely say it’s a good book. But like every book out there it has its flaws and imperfections.
I feel like this book tried to imitate Haunting Adeline. Not necessarily copy it but it came off that way. With the girl falling in love with her stalker and then because of the man’s line of work they have to fight a bigger final boss if you will together. But since because the book relied so heavily on this aspect of the plot the rest was a bit lack luster.
The romance in this book was I feel a little bit rushed. Because one page Noah wants to kill Evelyn and the next his inner monologue is saying he is in love with her. But when you get over that bit the love story was miles better than the overall plot.

• Evelyn and Noah, wow. Evelyn is a total badass babe, with a past unlike most. From a dangerous world she gains her freedom, or so she thought. Noah, the mysterious White Dove Killer. Sent to take her down. Seriously guys, this man. Talk about a HOTTIE. I pictured him and his demeanor, his cool composure. The way he is with her, my dove 🕊️ Hardcore swoon. 🔥 Um also, the spice in the book, delicious.

Ok seriously this was Avery Conner's debut novel and wow.. just WOW!! It was so addicting! I immediately needed to read this book after seeing a brief synopsis and it did not disappoint. The books main tropes are enemies to lovers and has a bit of a cat and mouse vibe to it, which of course are instant winners! 🖤 Let's meet the characters; Evelyn Black, the MFC, hitwoman who retires and is nothing short of the bold and charasimatic female. Evelyn has taken out some series hits and that makes her a target. Enter our morally grey almost black MMC, Noah, he gives us the immediate stalker vibe who needs to have his little dove. The sheer brutality and unwavering determination Noah has when it comes to Evelyn is the exact amount of obsessive we like. The smut level in this book did not disappoint either, phewww it screams red flags and you know we love red flags little heathons. Please read the trigger warnings before diving in so you're prepared for what is coming. I can not wait for the sequel, Tainted Wings of Desire! 🕊️🖤

OMG , I am speechless at how perfect this book was, it gave me haunting Adeline vibes but so much more. Do I now have a link for men that might want to kill me, yes, am I ashamed? Nope! I couldn’t put this book down I was so obsessed so so so obsessed, it’s amazing and kept me on my toes. It had the perfect smutty parts and a good story line too, I will be making sure to read any and all books this author writes, and I can’t wait for it to come out in paperback so I can add it to my bookshelves. Because it is a MUST HAVE!
