And Africa called me back

Rate this book
“By the age of 8 it was clear to me who I’d marry. By 12, I knew I’d eventually spend my life in Africa and at 15 what house I would buy.” Elsa, having become a young woman, independent and strong-willed, meets once more with a friend of her older Nick. She had met him as a little girl, and when still oblivious to the world, she was filled with innocent love for him from the moment she met his wildly charming gaze. That little girl had waited for him, married him and followed him to Kenya. She found herself where the absence of perfection was granted, and where happiness is found in the little things of everyday life, the admiration of nature and in simplicity. Where there would be no set schemes or routines, but only the freedom to choose how to live your life. In this true story with a spark of fiction, the author presents a heartwarming romance in an evocative and moving story with powerful imagery and sensations that will have the reader experience Africa first hand. There is the growth of a fated love and family along with doubts, obstacles and joys of a life as not only a woman, but a mother that is all in the name of staying true to yourself and seeking authenticity. Elsa fights to leave a more comfortable yet unfulfilling journey, to seek the thrilling unknown of her dream life across the her beloved Africa.

This needed better editing. Words are missing in sentences, or incorrect words were used. Characters were not well developed. I felt no convention to the story or to the characters. I wanted to love this book, but I don't.

To me it was written tragically, negatively but I kept looking for bright spots. Anywhere. Any place. Finally found it at the end. Not a favorite but detailed and interesting overall. Especially the language.

I really wanted and expected to love this book but I found the writing abysmal. If it were a matter of the translator getting it wrong, then that's equally abysmal. I couldn't get into the book at all and hope( sort of) it had to do with the translation. Nothing of interest at all

Love Kenya.

This book was alright. It just isn’t my preferred genre. I read it because of my love for Africa and particularly Kenya. It didn’t really hold my attention.

Liked all of it very much except that ridiculous Paris thing. Plenty good enough without that !
