The Wish

Rate this book
Winter is lasting forever, the vegetable garden is barren, and Lila is hungry.  All she needs to make it through the winter is some flour for baking bread.  she makes a wish on a falling star.  It works! Luckily, each time the bread is gone, another star falls.  Someone else might have wished for an elaborate feast or extravagant clothes, but not Lila--at least not until her birthday.  That's when she will make a very special wish.

The story is sweet, but it feels like there is something missing. Upon finishing this one I said, "This has to be a translation," and it is. There is some feeling that is probably captured beautifully in Dutch that just doesn't translate the same in English.

Maybe something missing here.. kind of an abrupt ending. I really loved this sweet character and wanted to know more about her, but something just didn't work for me at the end.

A short story about how keeping things simple has its own benefits. A woman wishes on a falling star only for what she really needs.

Okay illustrations.
