This book, while dated from 1964, is much wider in scope than the tile suggests. For instance, there is much in detail about insect life from midges to water bugs and fauna from fish to otters. This is on top of types and evolution of waterways. There is also chapters on pollution, clean-up efforts, and political approaches to river resources such as hydroelectric dams, fish ladders, and conservation efforts. There are many B&W pictures. The Michigan professor author draws greatly on Great Lakes area examples.
