I was expecting lots of carving ideas, but this book goes over all sorts of gourds and squashes and how well they carve. I was a little disappointed.

This book had some nice suggestions on carving, but the best part was that it showed what tools to use to get the effects.

One of the best formats for having fun learning to carve gourds, pumpkins, and whatever your heart likes, I do not carve the bushel gourds last year, took the harvest of the gourds too soon and after 2o beautiful bushel gourds, I ended with 4 soft shells gourds. This year I have 20, hope the gourds dry, I will not bring them in until October 2017.
I would have to stop wanting to paint on the gourds, or make the different types of gourds into puppet heads like Marie Antoinette, Phillipe Cadet, Louis 16th 3 aunts nasty things to make.
This carving book by Ms. Morrell is fun, and so many fun drawings and suggestions, but to learn to carve takes time.
She also added patterns, but anyone can draw a character on their items she suggest a water soluble crayon. I use regular crayons, or markers.
I will try carving a pumpkin. Though to me my bushel gourd that I grew high up in our MS Magnolia tree is too big to believe even a growing story of mine about where gourds grow healthier products?
