That form feels rather ominous

This was between 4-5 stars for me.
I feel like this series knows what it wants to do, but doesn’t implement it as good as it could. I feel like since it’s an action fantasy with harem/fanservice themes with all the different female squads there could be a lot more fanservice. Whenever there’s more fetish stuff happening I don’t care and want to move past it because I’m just a fan of the female form but this volume seemed to move away from that slightly, and move to just nudity in different perspectives more so. I think this series needs to focus more on either the drama or focus on fanservice because it gets predictable and then kinda boring waiting for the next fanservice or action sequence only to be kinda letdown on occasion.

Well, I'm a simple person. Demons, fights and boobs. I love it.

With the cliffhanger of the previous volume, a bunch of grunts attacking the leaders it’s done as if it’s going to have a massive impact but I don’t know what most people were expecting. I for one completely expected the grunts to stand no chance and they don’t, they are easily wiped out. It’s cool that we get to see the defense force leader doing something with the leader of the grunts to demonstrate her power and her unpredictability. It’s a good showcase because it shows her personality as well, I understand why she unnerves so many people in the corps, she’s a monster in her own right.
I kind of wish we got a bit more of Yuuki’s perspective of the meeting and the battles after, aside from his surprise that the defense force took down all the fodder in the time it took him to transform. We don’t get his feelings of the others apart from saying the one outside was nice, he also gets a bit unnerved from the head of the defense force. I just feel like a lot more would be developed if he gave us a little more insight, I know he’s a blank slate to be our POV but we could get a little more. The series as a whole hasn’t really developed any of the characters and whilst I enjoy it, it would make a good series a great one.
The best part for me was everyone trying to sneak into Yuuki’s room, it just adds a nice bit of fun to a somewhat serious series. The girl that’s been pining over him and preparing to surprise him to get his favor is interrupted by one of the eight thunder gods doing the same thing. I honestly didn’t realise who she was at first, as she kind of looks like the lead of the defense force. They have a nice bit all whilst he’s asleep and I do like the girls charging in to save Yuuki, it shows he’s much more than just a weapon.
The thunder gods get a bit in this, they’re played as kind of goofy which I don’t mind as they seem pretty childlike. The all powerful egg is no longer an egg but unfortunately I quite liked that gag and was hoping it was going to absorb more people before becoming it’s own thing but it seems to be speedrunning things. The last we get is the defense force commander taking Yuuki for a ride to test his power and damn he goes mental with power and she beats him up. Whilst I understand it, she was warned before that there is a strain on him and his owner when someone else uses his power but she just doesn’t care. I felt a bit sorry for him and I hope we get more repercussions of this next volume, they have more training with other teams as well but I hope they take more time to develop as we are now going through numerous teams without getting attached to anyone, it just feels like a roundout and it’s a bit odd since we are 7 volumes in.

Not a lot going on for the baddies in this tankoubon of Chained Soldier, but stakes were still present. Kyouka now has two additional rivals within Demon Defense Corps to put up with over Yuuki, both from outside of her division with one of them, the Supreme Commander, causing him to become an out-of-control monster when borrowing him off Kyouka, making things more interesting than ever as the story now begs the question, "How to draw the line between who's has the right kind of power in controlling a slave and who doesn't even during a time of war?" Another rivalry got played up a bit: that between Shushu and romantically-obsessed Tenka, but fortunately, during a moment of peril, the story didn't hesitate to have the two temporarily put aside their differences to save Yuuki from the Shuki with Tenka taking the credit for back-up, evolving a working relationship all while the divisions of Demon Defense Corps are in joint training period, preparing for a coming battle with the 8 big evil lords. While not much was done for Nei in terms of character arc, it was nice that she got a heart-melting moment, which was also well played for laughs as her cuddling in bed with Yuuki turned out to be a sleepwalking antic bringing awkwardness for the slave himself. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of the baddies, more of Shushu's sexual pursuit of Yuuki, more heartwarming moments with Nei, another major character arc moment for Himari (who didn't get much to do), and how Yuuki's latest ordeal will bring bad blood between Kyouka and Supreme Commander, all in the next tankoubon of Chained Soldier.

I’m surprised between all the fan service which hey I’m not complaining it’s awesome the story is progressing at great pace! The new forms go crazy and the ending cliffhanger is great. I do hope they save his sister soon though
