The world's greatest literature from the 17th and 18th centuries available for students of all levels! Selected and edited by Keith Snell, the levels in this series are graded for the steady and progressive development of musicianship and technique. Each volume is arranged in chronological order and includes biographical information on the featured composers, something that both students and teachers will appreciate....the Baroque & Classical series provides a solid foundation by using music of the master composers, right from the start! Students are carefully introduced to a full spectrum of representative musical forms including fantasias, fugues, theme and variations, preludes, toccatas, dance suites, and sonatas. Editor Keith Snell selects works that not only motivate students but also highlight the characteristics of each period. Students study how lengthy melodic lines favored by Baroque composers were replaced by concise, expressive themes and how the ideas of thematic contrast emerged. This series provides a comprehensive and insightful overview of the Baroque & Classical period.
I guess this is going to be my favorite series of graded repertoire books. What I liked about this book is that it contains pieces that are both accessible and cool! I was never bored while playing these lovely little baroque and classical pieces. I also found this book useful for developing the skill of sight-reading. I can only play rather slowly, because I don't memorize what I'm playing, so I used the book to practice reading what's going next while playing the previous notes.
