★★★½✩ I had a difficult time rating this one. It has been years since I’ve read a book by Ms. Edwards, and I did so now because it was a “pick an author for me” read. Usually, CE writes Native American Indian stories; however, this one set in Australia. Due to the “fair use” of expired use verses plagiarism charges against this author in 2008, I didn’t want to purchase any of her books; however, this one was free at OpenLibrary.org, so I went with it.

It is so nice to read a “road trip” book that ★★★½✩ I had a difficult time rating this one. It is so nice to read a “road trip” book that is technically so well written. With the proliferation of self-published writers today, it is enjoyable to read something written by someone who has the technical skill of a writer. However, the romantic set-ups between the heroine, hero, and villain are just so cliché, making the book feel dated (from 1990). It is a bit of a “bodice ripper,” written when they were on the wane. Not that I didn’t want to see what happened! LOL!

From a shark attack (view spoiler), to a sinister villain who is only interested in the heroine because hero is (view spoiler), to fake marriages, to kidnappings, to not revealing secrets to save a sister, to dingo attacks, to eating kangaroo (eep!), to swan eggs hunting, to multiple bad guys, to Aboriginal tribes saving the day, and miraculously avoiding rape multiple times… it was a little much. Still, traveling across the Australian bush was interesting, as the land becomes a character in its own right.

The heroine, Thalia, was a little too passive and “Oh, Ian!” at times; it took forever for her to tell the hero, Ian, she was in a fake marriage, but Thalia eventually discovers a bit of the spitfire within. I liked that the hero wasn’t an über-alpha, and was tender with Thalia, which is not often the case in this sub-genre. I like a bit of a beta hero at times, but really, he is more of a good guy than beta.

I read this while tanning. Cigarette in one hand and this book in the other, I enjoyed the hell out of it.

Thalia is a bit of a dim bulb (to put it lightly). This became apparent to me less than 20 pages in: upon seeing shark in the water at end of her voyage to Australia, she thinks "better not fall off the boat" and then abruptly does so.

This book has a nice adventure feel to it, lots of drama, and lols. I also rolled my eyes a lot. ...more

Leaving her younger sister in England until she has money to send for her, she plans on starting a new life for herself. When she arrives she ends up in the water with sharks surounding her, and when she believes that dead is imminent, a stranger saves her life...Ian Lavery. Thalia is instantly drawn to Ian but she wonders if he is as attracted to her as she is to him. But his tender caresses only inflame her more which then turns into a intense love that she knows she can never have. When the danger to Ian and Thalia escalates it will take them both trusting in each other to survive the storm that is ahead.
Its been a little while since I have been able to read from this author. In the past all of the books that I have read from this author have been with native american's, so it was very neat to have a different setting. I received this through the open library online. My own public library has very few books by this author, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read this one. I absolutely adored this book. There was such a strong connection instantly between Ian and Thalia, I also enjoy the kind of story line that was in play here. I have always enjoyed a good historical that involved Australia. There was such excitement and adventure that was put into this story, it almost felt like I was there. The descriptions of the surrounding and the characters were done in a way that totally had me hooked from beginning to the end. It was very easy to fall in love with this story, and only took a few paragraphs into the story before I got hooked. There was also such a gentle way that Ian was with Thalia. He wasn't fully over the top alpha male type. He was tough and gritty but also was very tender and sweet at times with Thalia. Thalia at first lives in fear and doesn't have much of a backbone, but eventually it does kick in and I came to the point where I admired her. She turned out to be feisty and spirited and protective, and I loved how well this story was written and the way things turn out in the end. It was very emotional and at times I was almost crying it was so intense at different times. A lovely story that is full of sensual passion, sexy hero, and a roller coaster of a read. I would fully recommend this to anyone that enjoys a strong historical romance!! OUTSTANDING!

I enjoyed this book. I still like Cassie's Indian Romance stories better. It was about a young woman that went to Australia to find a better life and a rich husband so she can bring her sister over from England. She got mixed up with the wrong man and thats where her troubles began. Funny at times. ...more
