Katie Kirby is a writer and illustrator who lives by the sea in Hove with her husband, two sons and dog Sasha.

She has a degree in Advertising and Marketing and after spending several years working in London media agencies, which basically involved hanging out in fancy restaurants and pretending to know what she was talking about, she had some children and decided to start a blog called 'Hurrah for Gin' about the gross injustice of it all.

Many people said her sense of humour was silly and immature so she is now having a bash at writing children's fiction. The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks is her first novel.

Katie likes gin, rabbits, over-thinking things, the smell of launderettes and Monster Munch. She does not like losing at board games or writing about herself in the third person.

I met Katie Kirby in a HeadRead festival and she is a lovely person, very kind and friendly. I was determined to read the last unread Lottie Brooks book before meeting her and I succeeded. It was yet another fun story with insane situations and crazy solutions. 😊
Lottie Brooks books generally are a comfort read for me and they make me feel happy. That's precious in our current world. 🥰 I am able to recognise myself both in Lottie, her friends and her parents. Never lose your inner child, it makes life more fun! 😄

Content warnings: bullying, poop, homophobia, coming out

Another hilarious instalment of the Lottie Brooks series. This one is, perhaps, a tad darker than the others because it deals with the changing nature of friendships during your early teenage years and that hideous feeling of always being the one who's left out and not knowing why or how to fix it. And even though I'm in my 40s, that hit HARD.

Lottie got a dog but she had to look after dogs first to see if she was responsible enough but when she got her dog she called it pot Noodles and then it peed every where even though the person who was selling it said it was fully trained

A amazing book by Katie I love it so much that it’s worth the money in fact it always is ! It’s full of very good moments and Pot noodle 🤣 he cracks me up! Though them to Hammies are my favourite! 🤩💋

What is going on in Ambers fashion filled head! 😡I mean are all these mega mean actions going to get her friends. ?!🤔I just don’t understand her! She has been through a whole lot this time,🫤but I mean when I am hurt I ABSOLUTELY DO NOT HURT MY FRIEND’S FEELINGS AND TRY TO LEAVE HER TOTALLY FREINDLESS!!!!!!! Urgh. 🙄She makes me feel sick sometimes. 🤢

The way Jess acts makes me feel upset 😢 Amber is bringing stuff to her head and is pulling her away from Lottie and (very gladly)they make up and TQOEG understand what amber had done! 👍Just so you know, basically ALL the bestie problems lead to AMBER!!!!!!!! 😠

Daniel and Lottie are totally adorbs but in the book💋💋💋💋they are spending WAY TO MUCH time together!!! 😞🚫Well I guess that's the point, but BESTIES ALWAYS COME FIRST!!!!💅🏻❤️‍🔥(apart from family obvs) 💖And yes I DO think that sentence deserves capitals!💋💜#girlswinboysinthebin! #letsbefeminests #happydays! #girlsjustwannahavefun (sorry if thats a bit sexist 😬AKA first hashtag bit rude)

Great read Great cheese 🧀

This one is called” the majorly, awkward BFF dramas of Lottie Brooks, “by Katy Kirby
At first, but at first Lottie says :new year, new diary, new multipack of KitKat chunkies a new boyfriend! (Daniel) Lottie‘s friends think that she is always talking about Daniel; she says stuff like how dreamy and cute he is. Lottie and Toby, who is Lottie’s brother in case you forgot, really want a dog.Lotties mum has a book that wants her To eat healthier But the things she eats, make them fart a lot. Amber thinks she has to get a boyfriend because Lottie has one and Lottie is always blabbing about him. Daniel asked Lottie on a cinema date to watch sing2 and they go together, they get sweet and salty popcorn and a Coke each. At the end Lottie really needed a fart, and it was a really loud one. Lottie’s friends say she needs a signature look, so they go into the shops and try to look for different things. Amber, Molly and poppy go off because Amber gets bored and tired of Lottie, but Jess and Lottie search and search until they find a great signature look which are Burger earmuffs . Lottie and Toby are pretty convincing for the parents so their mum says to take neighbours dogs on a dog walk to test if they are responsible. Their dad comes with them and goes to the café at the beginning, and Toby sees one of his friends at the park and goes off to play with him so Lottie is all on her own .At one point One of the dogs go missing so in a panic tone, Lottie calls Jess. He gets there straight away and starts putting the dogs on the head. They find the missing dog which is in the café. It jumps at her dads bacon and egg sandwich and it goes to the floor where all the dogs eat it. Lottie‘s dad threatens to tell them Mum but then Lottie makes a comeback by saying I’ll tell Mum you left us alone. mum doesn’t know anything, so she finally caved in and they got a dog a few days later and they named it Pot Noodle which is a funny name. Pot Noodle makes a huge mess and ruins. Lotties Mums favourite bra and Lottie says if she takes any more than 50p out of her pocket money to pay for it then she will be fuming ,which is quite funny as bras cost like £45. at one point, Lottie randomly put a piece of sweetcorn and couldn’t get out, so she had to go to A&E to get it out and the doctor made her sneeze and it came out of his nice white uniform .Amber gets the whole group tickets to a gig called bad pancakes, and after that conversation, Daniel asked Lottie to the bad pancakes gig and she says yes so she has trouble having to decide who to go with. At the time Ambers dad can’t go To supervise, so Lottie‘s dad goes with them. Lottie told Daniel she wanted to go with her friends. As she always hangs out with him, and the gang would be angry with her, spending all her time with him instead of the group. Jess tells everyone at school that she thinks she is gay and goes to a club and likes somebody at the club. At the gig,Jess just goes off with that girl and Amber says that Lottie can go with Daniel because poppy Molly and her were going to sit down and just said gone off with a girl so naughty stayed for a bit and then went to meet them back up but when she couldn’t find them she looked everywhere and everywhere. At the end of the gig she found them Jess was crying, and Amber had an arm around her. they sorted it out

I really like the book because it has lots of drama and lots of fun parts.
I didn’t like how, at the end of the book Amber went to the main group and left the Queens of eight Green with Lottie,Molly, poppy and Jess.
My favourite part of this book was were Lottie doesn’t go out with Daniel, but she invites her friends to her house and they have an awesome Valentines dinner with pot noodles, monster, Munch and ice cream.

[współpraca recenzencka wydawnictwo znak]

★★★/5

Urocza książka idealna dla dzieci.

Hej, hej!

Pomimo mojej opinii zapraszam was do przeczytania tej książki.

I really enjoyed this book! It was so funny, and it was quite an impactful read as well.

New Year=New Lottie. Some new resolutions, a new diary, a new boyfriend and a new multi-pack of Kitkat Chunkys, Lottie Brooks feels as if she is ready to take on the world. However, her annoying little brother, Toby, comes up with a New Year Resolution that they can actually agree on (I know, WHAT?!), which is to get a new dog, so Pot Noodle the cockapoo becomes the newest member of the already huge Brooks family.
However, having the responsibilities of the new dog, having a new boyfriend, and having no KitKat Chunkys to survive on, means that she has little time for anything or anyone else, including TQOEG, who are very upset. But how is she meant to keep everyone happy (including mean old Amber) whilst making sure that Pot Noodle doesn’t accidentally tear the house down?

I absolutely loved this funny novel. It was very funny, embarrassing and extremely ridiculous - like, honestly, cannot comprehend how how many ridiculous, embarrassing things can happen to a single person - but it also did have a lot of serious parts in this too. I liked how it was about friendship dramas, as I have experienced things like this in the past, and I think it will help anyone going through challenging times like this as well. I thought Amber was being really mean, and I just didn’t like her attitude through the book, but that is just Katie’s amazing storytelling that makes these books feel so real. I absolutely recommend this series, however read all of the books in order, and BE WARNED: These books are absolutely embarrassing and will have you laughing your head off. Don’t say you haven’t been warned! Because you have!

Kolejny tom przygód szalonej nastolatki, Lottie Brooks.

This book is fun, chaotic and exciting! I loved reading this book and I can’t wait for the new one to come out in October! I have already read the first five books and are going back to waiting for more!!

What I like about the book:
The story line is very silly and serious. I sympathised with what Lottie Brooks was going through with amber as I am sure most young teens my age would have gone through the same experiences! Lottie brooks’ family of very relatable and where most of the funny stories happen!! I also love how Lottie’s best friend - Jess - is able to share and be proud of being part of the +LBTGQ community and their friendship group supported her through and through!

Basic storyline:
Lottie starts the new year with her new boyfriend - Daniel (we found out about this in book 4 and the build up was from book 1) - and Lottie Finds it hard to spend time with her best friends, Daniel and the new dog (who is not potty trained at all).
Amber is going through a hard time as her parents had just got divorced but was pretending to be ‘fine’ even though she wasn’t. As a result of amber’s stress and emotions she was releasing her anger on Lottie who was only trying to be a good friend!

All in all this is a great read and I would definitely recommend reading this!

My assumption of reading age: 11-14

Hope you enjoyed this read!
