Alright. I've had many issues with this series after book 1 and I had high hopes that book 3 would rectify some of them, but unfortunately for me it still just didn't work.

The positive note that I have is - the last 20% of this book was a great showcase of Thea - but I feel like it was too little too late.

I think the root of my issues all began in book 1- there's a lot of tension and build up to the FMC (Thea) and the MMC's (Wilder) relationship. In book 1 after all of the tension and tip toeing around there's an impulsive sudden sexual encounter, literally in the last 15-20ish%.

From there we jump into book two. I feel like the author never dives into the emotional connection between these two. Vows & Ruin is literally these two banging it out non stop, but I was personally left feeling lost as to why they feel this undying love for each other?

Because you just said so? Because the author told me so?

A huge part of why I love to read is the feeling I get, the emotions I experience. I can't get there if you just simply shove the two main characters bodies together and say 'they love each other so they fuck.' LOL. Wild.

Book 3 takes place a year after book two ends and I thought it was going rather well until it wasn't. Scheuerer managed to find a way to shove in more spice even while the two were separated.

Listen, I know I sound like I'm really just harping on the spice - and I LOVE SPICE. But not when there is SUPPOSED to be emotions there and I can't pick up on a single one of them. This is the author TELLING me but NOT SHOWING me.

Not only that, but this relationship gave me severe whiplash in this installment- more than I've experienced with them in the previous books.

There is too much that doesn't add up here with the story as a whole- I will just say that to avoid spoilers. Plot holes, let's just say plot holes.

Also, generally speaking - I feel like the story is getting dragged out at this point. I've lost interest, there is simply not enough lor, magic or battles going to for me to give a damn anymore.

Helen, this isn't Game of Thrones, there is not enough substance here to have pulled out 4 books. My interest in this story has actually declined with each page.

Highly doubt I'll read the last book - I already feel I can predict what will happen and I just don't care.

This was better than the last book so I’m bumping it up to 3 stars, but maybe I really should have bumped the last one down to one. 🙃 Wilder & Thea’s physical separation only lasted about 10 min into this book, but their emotional relationship and trust is compromised and it takes a good chunk of the book for them to start to work things out. As much as I hate contrived drama, I was happy for the respite it provided from the endless smut of the previous book. Thea’s thoughts are always in the gutter though, so it wasn’t a complete respite. 🙄🙄

There is a significant amount of corruption that is uncovered in this book and many of the FMC’s beliefs are challenged. This book was a great example of why you can’t just blindly trust/follow your government and leaders. Thea was so quick to believe the worst of Wilder that I think she will still have a long road towards proving her loyalty to him and earning back his trust. Thea and Wilder are honestly one of my least favorite fantasy couples I’ve read and I really don’t understand the hype surrounding them, but I’m glad most of the drama seems to be behind them.

I can tell that this author attempted to create “found family” vibes in this book, but none of her side characters stand out or feel memorable to me. They don’t have quite enough personality or interactions with the MC’s to really make an impression. I think Thea’s sister’s character has the most potential, but so far, she’s still falling a little flat for me. Especially considering how uninterested I am in Thea & Wilder, a few truly lovable side characters could have made a big impact on my overall enjoyment of this series.

I think the next book has the potential to be my favorite based on what was foreshadowed in this book, but we’ll see. Only one way to find out…

✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼ ҉ ✼

Pre-read: Grudgingly starting this since it’s the book that needs to go back next on Libby and I don’t want it to monopolize my hold slots again.

Trusting Krysta that this one will be mildly better and maybe actually include a plot. 😆

I want to get to Iron & Embers so I think I just need to power through.

“When I stand against the gods at the end of my days.. I will regret nothing. Not the lies Ive told, nor the lives I’ve claimed or the rivers of blood I’ve spilt. I do not regret a single moment, because every one of them led me to you.”

a lot about this book got on my nerves— specifically Thea and Wilder’s obnoxious sex drives. oh and the fact that Wilder has some magic dick that can apparently bring forth Thea’s powers now 🤦‍♀️.. i have no words cause what was the reason lmfao. Thea makes so many dumb decisions in this book that made me so annoyed too, i was expecting more groveling on her part and although Wilder does hold out due to being hurt by Thea, it still wasn’t enough in my opinion. the side characters: Kipp, Cal and Malik continue to be the shining light in the mess that is the mc’s perspectives and im so grateful for them cause they helped me through this book.. i’d do anything for them 🥹

despite my issues, i did enjoy this more than book 2 and thought the plot picked back up a bit with some interesting progression. things took a turn at the end, which grabbed me right back into needing to see what would happen. the last bit of it was kinda predictable but i have a bit of optimism again that the final book might lean towards a better experience. i’m still not a fan of either Wilder nor Thea but there were some sweet moments between them that was a nice break from everything else that was irritating me. expecting above a 4 star would’ve been unrealistic due to the way these are written but im just glad this wasn’t a total fail tbh.

The Thezmarr series just keeps getting better, which is impressive considering how good Blood & Steel is.

Our main characters Thea and Wilder are wonderful as always. I love the fact that we got a slow burn romance this far into a series, that is not an easy feat. After the cliffhanger from book 2 I had no idea how this was all going to play out and I couldn't be happier. Both Thea and Wilder have continued to grow and change, both as a couple and as individuals. I love seeing where they started and how far they've come from there.

This series, and this book in particular has a lot of side characters. However, they've been introduced into the story slowly and with lots of care. They all have really lovely and distinct personalities, clear goals and motivations; as well as their own little quirks that add so much detail. As someone who is also constantly anxious knitting, I've got a real soft spot for Gus. I hope we get to see more of him in book 4.

Helen did a wonderful job of managing the balance of plot and romance in this book. I was blown away by just how much plot is packed into this book, so much happens to our characters and the world around them in this one. Things are really starting to fall into place and I cannot wait to see where book 4 takes Thea and Wilder.

While not directly considered a prequel, I highly recommend reading Slaying the Shadow Prince prior to reading this book. It provides a lot of context and backstory for some characters who come into play here and will no doubt continue to be quite important in book 4.

Thank you Helen and team for my ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This series just gets better & better & is now cemented as one of my all time favourites that I will always recommend.

I am always ready to dive into a Helen book, & each time I am floored by how easy it is to read & get lost in the world, while also being an Epic Fantasy with high stakes, lots of tension & believable, loveable characters.

This instalment was no different. The action never stopped, the emotional impact after the ending of book 2 propels you through the beginning & doesn’t let you take a breathe for a while. But when you do, the connection between the characters is what holds your heart together.
All the characters have a purpose and a place in my heart & while I need Book 4 in my hands right now… I also never want this series to end!

Ultimately, my favourite part of this series is the growth of the FMC (& the mmc) but to see a female main character hold so much feminine rage & how she channels it to accomplish all that she does, it honestly makes me proud of her!!!
That’s how invested I am.

I can not recommend this series enough.

I was provided an ARC by the author. This review is my own thoughts.

⭐️4.5 but I’m rounding up
🌶️ yes!

First of all Helen cannot miss. This is my fourth book from her and it’s like crack. I open the book, blink and I’m like 200 pgs in and didn’t even notice time pass. Her pacing is so fast and engaging.

This is the peak of the crescendo in thea and Wilders relationship and after the ending of the last book I was READY for just a heartbreaking and wild ride… I didn’t get that but it’s totally fine because wilder was never a bad guy. While I don’t agree with the things he withheld… I get it. There is tension between our two characters and a dagger to the throat scene (my bread and butter) but it felt like it was lukewarm tension when I was expecting like boiling hot angry tension. I didn’t love that wilder was upset over his own actions but again I get it.

This book is also a middle of the series book but I liked the breather, we know the world the magic and the plot no need for any heavy info dumping or hand holding just good ole fashion we need to get everyone where they need to be for the final.

The book SHINES on Thea growth on her own. (I’m sad we missed a year on her life but I’ll live) Helen writes EPIC women. I was tearing up because i was just so damn proud. Proud of her growth, proud of her victories and proud for the question she was allowed to ask. There was just something to her in this book that made me wanna jump and tell her how proud i am of her.

I love this book. Like I said Helen never misses for me. And I am so so honored to have been able to get an arc (all thoughts and feelings are my own)

"When I stand against the gods at the end of my days,’ he told her fiercely, ‘I will regret nothing. Not the lies I’ve told, nor the lives I’ve claimed or the rivers of blood I’ve spilt. I do not regret a single moment, because every one of them led me to you."

Best. Book. In. The. Series.

I could not put it down!!

This book was filled with action and I did not have a moment of rest I needed to know what was going to happen next. There was this haunting sense that something omnious was about to happen.

The character development truly paid off and I am truly enjoying Thea and Wilder both as individual characters and as a couple.

I was a little worried with the development of their romance since I felt it was a bit rushed at the start, but it continues to be deliciously angsty and they have such a fiery chemistry between them. My heart hurt so much for both of them and you wouldn't get that feeling out of me if I wasn't attached to the characters.

The stakes now are VERY HIGH! Helen shredded my nerves and I need someone to check on me while I'm reading the next book which is the finale and I'm scared.

Aside from the romance, I really love the found family dynamic and the relationship both Thea and Wilder have with each of their friends.

I am very pleased that I got so many answers to the questions and mysteries that have been floating around since the first two books.

Before reading this installment I highly recommend to read Slaying the Shadow Prince, it's a standalone but connected to this universe and you'll eventually know why.

I have no patience, I need to get to the finale right away!

4.5 stars

I had to sit on my feelings for this one a bit before finalizing my rating. I still had some issues with this installment, but I ate this book up and really enjoyed it in spite of the issues I had.

This third book had way more action and more depth in a lot of the characters and their progressions. The overall reveal of this series' storyline wasn't anything crazy; I think we all could see it coming and what was really going on in the midrealms, but I really started to enjoy this when all of that started to come together and we're seeing more characters.

But my feelings about the end of the second book still stand for this book. Why did Thea have absolutely NO faith in the man she claimed she loved? No hesitation whatsoever to brand Wilder as a traitor. She does come to this realization later and that helped me a little bit, but I really don't enjoy these couples that say they have this great love and then as soon as something comes to test it they're jumping ship.

Now I do think Wilder could have been more open with her up until then. He kept way too many secrets and really did a disservice to her and her abilities by keeping so many things from here. But I'm firmly on Team Wilder when it comes to who fucked up more. Thea. Absolutely Thea.

But all that aside this was a pretty wild ride and I also saw the ending coming a mile away. Someone was going to that prison, was just a matter of if it was gonna be Wilder or Thea. And now we FINALLY get the Shadow Prince so I'm excited for these two to fuck shit up in last book.

Im torn on whether I like this series or not
Some of it is interesting but overall im just not invested in the characters and im on book 4 now, surely I should care more.

She lost her powers for a whole year only for them to come back once she had sex with Wilder??? Does that mean if they ever break up she will lose them again? Its meant to be her birthright power but its somehow linked to sex with him?

I really wish this book focused on the found family Kipp & Cal and also on the actual sisters, we barely see Wren and I wanted more bonding with Anya rather than multiple spice scenes.
She finds out her sister was set up by the King, forced into a cave with a reaper, survived the painful transformation doesn’t say a word to her but instead tries to go and get it on with Wilder…priorities?

I don’t even know if i cba to read the last book

Seriously this book frustrated me to no end. TO 👏 NO 👏 END 👏. It could have been so goooood! Thea and Wilders relationship gave me whiplash and I felt their chemisty was truely broken and never really came back. After the terrible ending in book 2, I was hoping for a damn good explanation as to why he did what he did. Well I still haven't got it.

Spoilers, issues and questions I have...
* Why exactly did he leave her for 1 year?
* My betrayal ran deep for Thea. Gaslit her. Still not over it.
* Why was SHE apologising?! Cause she didn't believe him? He never even gave her an opportunity to try to believe him. Gave her no explanation. Nothing! Just left aghhhhhhh!!!!
* Then she's gone and said it was HER fault that they were seperated for a year (pg.279)! Like how? She was literally looking for him. He could have made himself known at any time.
* He said she was ready for the great rite in the last book so why was he still sending monsters after her for "training"? 🤷‍♀️ Aggghhh the inconsistencies!!
* Sorry but no "so-called" great love could bear to not see their person for a whole YEAR. Especially knowing they only have 1 year left to live. WTF?! This kills me honestly. Like time is of the essence dick head.
* The author builds up their romance in book 2 only to have it make NO sense in book 3.
* His ex is back in the picture but no one really acknowledges her feelings about it?!
* Can someone explain to me her (and her sisters) visions in book 2? Like how are they having them? What magical power is this? Am I missing something?

Anyway, not sure if I'll read the final book. I can't take any more inconsistencies, plot holes and very little explanation of previous motives. Overall, I love the premise of the book but it wasn't executed well.

3⭐️ ‘I always knew you would be the end of me.’ Thea swallowed, hard. She didn’t want to be the end of him, not anymore. She wanted to be the beginning.

Full RTC after the final book…I need to see if the chaos of this one is worth it before I give my thoughts and I need to see how it ends to do that 😭

This just solidified this as one of my favorite series of all time. PLEASE READ THIS SERIES. You will not regret it, its one of the best romantasy series I have ever read 🤩 Every book by Helen just HITS everytime.

It’s just SO easy to immerse myself back into this world and these characters. Fate & Furies kicks off a year after the end of Vows & Ruins. It was unexpected but appreciated because we didn’t have a huge chunk of time where Thea and Wilder were separated.

Thea is in a dark place after being betrayed by Wilder and hunting him down across the kingdom for a year. She has hardened and is struggling. I didn’t like how she was treating Kipp and Cal but I loved that they still stuck by her side because they knew she was going through a hard time.

The found family is full force and I LOVED IT. Cal, Kipp, and Thea’s friendship made me so so happy and also provided such great comedic relief.

THE ONE HORSE TROPE. It’s just so delicious every single time, especially with the forced proximity. This very well may be the best only one horse scene I’ve ever read. DOUSE ME IN A BUCKET OF WATER PLEASE.

Thea is a bad*ss bitch and I LOVE her. She isn’t perfect and I loved her flaws and growth in this book.

Wilder freaking Hawthorne. He’s so devoted to Thea and it’s HOT. I love my grumpy badass warrior MMC who would do anything for Thea.

Thea & Wilder are EVERYTHING ❤️‍🔥 The tension and angst was chefs kiss. Even when Thea was pissed at Wilder she couldn’t resist him. And the spice is *chefs kiss* 🤌🏻

A certain character was SO unexpected and I loved her! Her backstory was SO interesting and answered a lot of questions I had.

The Witcher vibes were in full force with the warriors guild and the monster hunting.

The villain is finally revealed and WOW I didn’t see that coming at all. As soon as you think you know something, Helen throws something else at you and is like “I bet you didn’t see that coming” and I LOVE IT. That’s part of the reason why she’s one of my favorite authors.

The ending had me buzzing with excitement, I have been waiting for this moment since finishing Slaying the Shadow Prince!!!

Also just to say: I adore Torj and I need an entire book solely about him.

Things to expect:
- Enemies to lovers
- Sisterly bonds
- Forced proximity
- Only one horse
- Masquerade ball
- Light vs dark
- Spice: 3/5

Thank you to the author & her PA for the eARC opportunity. Like always, this review is voluntary & honest.

I think it’s appropriate to start this off with, THIS BOOK WAS TENSION FILLED, ANGSTY, DELICIOUS GOODNESS. Seriously, I’m over here still thinking about it two full days later. It was like it imprinted itself in my brain, heart & soul. And you may be thinking, “here Pia goes being her dramatic self…” and while that may be PARTLY true, I also wholeheartedly mean that this book was SO FREAKING GOOD.

Now, one of the things I liked about this book is that a lot of the questions we had from book 1 & 2 are finally answered and it perfectly shaped the overall story to get us to what you could say is the beginning of the final showdown. The INTENSE conclusion, speaking on Thea & Wilder’s story specifically. Seriously, Helen has perfectly built so many plot points in this overall series and it was just EPIC to see this story continue to grow. Book 4 is going to be absolute perfection.

Thea, I love this girl with my whole heart, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t fully giving her tough love in the beginning because OUR GIRL IS STUBBORN. Is it understandable? Absolutely. Since book 1, Thea’s world as she knew it completely changed, drastically so. Her unknown past has been unveiled, the darkest secrets of her world are finally revealed & what she thought she knew was the furthest thing from reality. But I’ve loved to see her constant growth, personality wise but also as the fearless, ruthless warrior she has become. One with a just & kind heart that slowly has begun to let its walls down. Thea in book 4 will be CHEF’S KISS ALL AROUND.

WILDER, my teddy bear with a heart of gold. This man is one of the blue prints for the perfect book boyfriend. My man can tear the world apart with his bare hands, but he is also the most caring, compassionate & loyal man out there. And even though he can be grumpy & moody as well, the moments where he shows vulnerability is when he shines the brightest I think. His growth from the first book has been INCREDIBLE to see. And not only is he a ruthless Warsword of Thezmarr, but you can tell he is a leader is his own right. One who will not hesitate to go into the darkest & most terrifying of places & fight with all he has to protect others. And he never gives up on those he loves, no matter what. His good heart has to be my favorite thing in this series.

There are so many incredible side characters who stole my heart from the very beginning & who I love seeing continue to grow. Kipp & Cal are the most incredible friends you could ask for & an integral part of Thea’s found family. Wren who is just as strong as Thea & whose mind & intelligence is the most lethal of weapons. TORJ & MALIK WHO I ALSO ADORE WITH MY WHOLE HEART & SOUL. We learn more about other characters, feel their stories deeply. And there’s also other surprises along the way.

I’ve said this before & I’ll say it again, this series has quickly become a favorite of all time & this book absolutely delivered. This is one you’ll definitely want to read! 💚

WE ARE BACK BABY! Whew! The series has been redeemed after whatever the hell book 2 was. (Yes, I’m still salty about it.) It was dicey there for a minute, y’all. I was going to be sad to abandon the series, but the Nesta effect is real.

Fates & Furies was a trip back to the tried and true with Wilder and Althea, doing what they do best. Kicking ass and taking names. We got to see the full arc of the betrayal, a ton of mysteries revealed, some new allies (and a few old ones), and someone gets the chance for their Great Rite. It’s everything I needed to be and everything I wanted it to be. The right balance of spice and action, this was a fantastic read. Once again, I did not prepare myself and have the last book ready at the library. So, I’ll be over here, not so patiently waiting for it to be ready.

Eleventeen stars out of ten. Helen Scheuerer never fails to level up with each successive book in her series, and Fates and Furies is no different. This book left me breathless, emotionally exhausted and utterly satisfied. It was the best kind of emotional rollercoaster. Scheuerer expertly weaves all the plots from the first two books into a climax to end all climaxes in this penultimate installment. If you’re a lover of fantasy romance, this series has everything and more: book boyfriends to lust over, fantasy worlds to hunger for, Taverns you’d give your right hand to drink in, and a romance to die for. I think I’ve said this about every book in the series, but this really was the best book yet. There are no words to do this series justice. Just go and read it. You’re welcome.

Can we normalize having two max three books in a series pls? I mean I love long series, don't get me wrong but sometimes I feel like having four or more books in the series wheel pulls the story way too much when some storylines don't need that kind of stretching. You're just breaking the narrative apart

Thank you so much to @helenscheuerer & @bookofmatchesmedia for my gifted eARC of 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐞 & 𝐅𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬!!

Oh. My. GAWD. This was AMAZING. Five stars doesn’t even cover it because INFINITY stars. I cannot get enough of these books & characters. I love them all so much & I love this series more & more with every book that comes out. This one definitely takes the cake for WOW moments. I literally couldn’t sleep because I couldn’t stop thinking about everything that happened!

Thea & Wilder are two of my favorite characters ever, as individuals and as a book couple. Their chemistry has always been amazing & I love how deep their connection to each other is. You feel it in your soul. Wilder knows he made some mistakes in hiding things from Thea, but I love how you can feel in their emotions how that decision affected them. You can see how Thea tries & struggles to work through those emotions, because her mind tells her one thing but her heart and love for Wilder is trying to tell her something else. Their relationship is complicated, heart-wrenching, & beautiful. I love that they aren’t perfect characters & that they are real & have flaws. You’re just going on this journey with them trying to figure everything out & trying to figure out how to feel. The emotions are abundant in this book & emotional roller coaster doesn’t even begin to describe it. I cried and laughed and screamed and wanted to throw my kindle across the room at some points!

One of my other favorite parts of this book was the found family with Thea, Cal, & Kipp. I love their friendship SO much and Kipp always has me giggling. They truly have each other’s backs & I love their camaraderie so much.

This series is surely sky-rocketing into one of my favorite Romantasy series. It had everything. The plot and romance are blended & written so beautifully together and the reading experience is beginning to rival the way I felt when reading my favorite SJM books. I can’t get enough and I cannot wait for the next book because that ending SENT me!!

I cannot recommend these books enough! If you love Romantasy, you absolutely need to read these books because they will change your life!

80% of this book was a chit chat. Nothing happened. The first 200 pages were just a waste of time.
(Last) 20% contained some action but all was so predictable that I didn’t care for it.

Not sure why this series was split into 4 books? A trilogy would do just fine, and still be plenty. Especially since book 2 is garbage and this one is straight up boring.

2 stars mostly for Kipp cause he is funny to read about and the fact that this time around I didn’t have to push through mindless porn in every other chapter. Yay for progress.

I LOVED book 1… really pushing through to see this story end but boy it doesn’t get better.
