This 1970 adventure for the Saint (by Fleming Lee & Leslie Charteris) is based on a 1959-60 comic strip. A lot of the later Saint novels like this one were not written by Charteris, so they don't quite live up to his earlier work.
The Saint in Pursuit is light, frivolous fun with occasional witty one liners. Simon Templar is absent for the earlier parts of the book, but the other characters are nicely established. The story moves swiftly from Portugal to Switzerland and demands only minimal

Many of the later Saint stories are adaptations of episodes from the TV series (both The Saint with Roger Moore and Return of the Saint with Ian Ogilvy), but The Saint in Pursuit is I think unique in that it originated as a comic strip printed in American newspapers.

I really enjoyed to read this book because it was the first that I read that was about espionage. While the story is unfolding, there are a lot of funny comments and similes like "it was as delicate as a needle poking a balloon". Dark humour and a great main character. Honestly I started reading this book because of it's title in portuguese (I'm portuguese), which is The Saint and the Mystery of Lisbon (Lisbon is the capital of Portugal, for those who don't know), so...
