Unfortunately, this is essentially on long pamphlet on the benefits of TM, whereas I was hoping to learn the technique without spending $1000 on personal instruction. If you are on the fence about trying/paying for it yourself, this 30 year old book does have a LOT of research on the practical effects on nearly every aspect of life. The last section gets into incredulous territory (TM-Sidhi "flying" and global TM effects), but as I said, it is just a book meant to sell you on the personal instruction.

Great introduction to TM, especially if you've not learned anything about it yet. There are lots of studies, that prove TM works. This book will tell you all about those and how it can help you too, even if your life is great, you're successful and balanced. Adding the TM meditation can only improve what's happening for you in your life. For me, TM Meditation was worlds easier to do than any other meditation I've practiced over my life. I just turned 50 this year, and one of the best things I could have done for myself at 49 was get a TM teacher and learn the meditation. It's easy. So easy. And it works. When I entered, I'd had a lifetime of PTSD, ADHD, along with a bunch of other mental issues, like severe depression and suicidal thoughts. The ugly thoughts have disappeared, the depression is lifting. Overall, I have a sense of peace within myself, even though the world is a wreck, and there are super challenges that come up in life. This is making me a better wife, a better mother, a better daughter - a better human. If you don't have TM in your life, you need it. Regardless of how crappy or sunny your life is now.

It conveys its idea in a practical and easy to understand way but I don't agree with all of those ideas. This book's perception of crime is wild to me. It is so clear the classes and stuff are a scam that they kind of make you cringe to read about.
I still really enjoyed it and the illustrations. It definitely gave me some jumping off points for further study on the positive effects of TM. Im really interested in learning more about TM's effect on broncial asthma and see what more modern findings are on that.

Ive been practicing meditation for a few years now and love it. Try it!

Basically the book is about why you need to do TM not about TM itself. You need a guru to give you a mantra first. Enlightenment ain't free.

I didn't like this book. I am interested in learning about Transcendental Meditation so I bought this book. I read it in a few hours. It was full of a lot of filler. The book could have been and SHOULD have been edited down to about 40 pages.

Still the sweetest introduction to Transcendental Meditation ever written.

Essentially an extended brochure for the program. Doesn't contain a sentence of instruction.

It didn't tell you how to meditate-only that you should sign up to learn.
