Book 2 in the Los Monstruos series by Diana Lopez.

We are back in the magical town of Tres Leches, home to Texas-Mexico border folklore and legends. La Llorona is now gone from the town and river, now kids are going missing! The Dancing Devil’s son, Rooster, helps find them with help of his friends Ava and Felice. They end up at a gothic mansion that pulls kids in and makes them never want to leave.

So much magic, history, folklore and adventure in this MG novel! I am hoping for a third, but I love that both titles are available in English and Spanish for my students!

This is book 2 in the Los Monstruos series, but I just didn’t connect to it like I did in book 1.
In Tres Leches, Texas, many of the kids have gone missing and Rooster, son of The Dancing Diablo, takes it upon himself to promise the town that he is going to find the kids and bring them back. But helping them return isn’t so easy. Rooster discovers that his abuelo, Candelario, is El Diablo and entices children to stay at Los Marranitos Mansion by providing all of the food and fun a kid could want. It takes Rooster, his friend, Ava, and her pet squirrel, Paco, working together to help the kids escape

This has a lot of the same quirky fun as the first book, but I didn't feel the same emotional resonance in this one as I did the first.
