Soper, a naturalist who has made wildlife films, has written a lucid and knowledgeable guide filled with excellent watercolors by Dan Powell. Visitors to the Arctic will want to dip frequently into this portable volume to learn the habits and history of the local mammals of land and sea, birds, fish, invertebrates and plants, as well as the human history of the area. Very beautiful and complete book on living things in the Arctic circle. Cute and helpful drawings, a lot of information and even a guide on how to recognize whales from their dorsal fins. I also love the attention to the history of the Arctic, from discovery to exploitation. Only downside is the lack of information on invertebrates, in my opinion.
