William Joyce does a lot of stuff—films, apps, Olympic curling—but children’s books are his true bailiwick (The Numberlys, The Man in the Moon, Nicholas St. North and the Battle of the Nightmare King, Toothiana, and the #1 New York Times bestselling The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore, which is also an Academy Award–winning short film, to name a few). He lives with his family in Shreveport, Louisiana.

I got this for the nephew. I am a huge William Joyce fan, but his Rolie Olie series isn’t my favorite, I have to say. It’s cute, but it feels rushed to me and rather simple.

Rolie gets snow and they build a snowman who becomes their friend. As it warms up, they take him to the north pole to let the snowman live there. They meet Klancky Klaus there and get a ride home with him. It’s rather slow.

The nephew forgot that this robot was named Rolie Polie Olie. He loves robots and he loves rolie polies. They remind him of the summer. He was happy to have a story set in a world of robots. He wants to get move of these books and there are a lot of them, so I’ll be getting more of these. He gave this 5 stars. There are also snowmen and he is crazy about snowmen still, so this has it all, well, all but monsters.

That little robot Rolie Polie Olie returns in this second picture-book devoted to his adventures, this time making a new snowman friend when the light bulb blows out on his world's sun, and they have a rare snowy day. But when the sun is restored, it looks like the end of Mr. Snowie. Can Olie and his sister Zowie get him to Chillsville in time to save him? Will they meet Klanky Klaus, once there...?

This being a happy upbeat robot-world, the answer to both of these questions is yes, of course, but fans of Rolie Polie Olie will still enjoy following along for the adventure. Unlike its predecessor, Snowie Rolie isn't told in rhyme, although the narrative still has a bouncy feeling to it. The artwork is bright and colorful, complementing and enhancing the text. Although these Rolie Polie Olie books aren't my personal favorite, of author/artist William Joyce's work - I prefer the Guardians of Childhood series, and The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore - they are still good fun, especially for young robot lovers. It is to such young children that I would recommend this one, as well as its companions.

Snowie Rolie is a story of friendship and sacrifice. On an unusual day when it snows, Olie and Zowie create Snowie, a new friend. They have a great time until the sun replaces its bulb and heats up again. Then Olie and Zowie are forced to find a way for their friend to survive. Eventually they realize that Snowie can't stay where he's at, and they take off for Chillsville. After a crash landing, they find some more new friends and a place for Snowie to stay safe. While it's hard to say goodbye, Olie and Zowie know it's the best thing for their friend. Joyce has created a sweet story of friendship found, friendship lost, and friendship remembered. The illustrations are bright and cheerful and make the book fun to read.

These Rollie Olie books are so bad. Lame stories, bland characters, uninteresting illustrations. There’s really nothing redeeming about them.

This book is full of wishes, friendship, and farewells. Written by William Joyce, Snowie Rolie takes place in an imaginary land where Olie and his sister Zowie live. They really wish it would snow because they love snow. One day, the sun’s light bulb burns out and snow begins to fall. Olie and Zowie are so excited and happy. They build a snowman and call him Mr. Snowie. They have so much fun with their new friend until the sun gets a new light bulb and it begins to warm up. They have to take Mr. Snowie to a place he will not melt, this place is called Chillsville.
What happens next can be suspenseful for a child. Does Mr. Snowie make it to Chillsville and does he survive. This is a great book that children can read and have fun with. Every child has had a wish before so it is something they can relate to. Children would really enjoy this book and can use their imagination along with the creative pictures in the story.

Picture Book; Great story and beautiful/colorful illustrations about a character named Rolie Polie Olie who lived with his family where it never snows. One day the sun's lightbulb went out and it started to snow. The kids built a snowman called Snowie Rolie. But it warmed up and they couldn't keep him cool enough, so they brought him up north to Chillsville where Klanky Klaus and other Snowie Rolies live. Emotion shows through the illustrations very well. The illustrations are just incredible works of art. Loved it! Gr. K-3; Highly recommended.

I am trying to find the few William Joyce books that I haven't gotten to read yet, and this was one of them! I used to love this show, and the few books of the series I could find when I was younger. Reading this was fun and gave me a nice, warm, nostalgic feeling!!

Maybe ok as a read to book for preschool and below. The drawing style has a computer graphic feel and didn’t draw me in.

"Snowie Rolie" by William Joyce is the story of Olie and his sister Zowie wishing for a snow day. When their sun blows a bulb, they finally get one! They work together to make a snowman together, named Mr. Snowie. They love him so, but when the sun gets a new bulb, Olie and Zowie must find a way to keep Mr. Snowie from melting. They decide to fly to Chillsville, but crash land in a place they did not know existed- a place with hundreds of other snowmen and a man named Klanky Klaus. They leave Mr. Snowie here where he will keep from melting, but Olie and Zowie are still sad to say goodbye.

This book used to be one of my very favorites as a kid, and after re-reading it today I decided it still is! One of my least favorite things in the world is having to say goodbye to anyone for any reason. This book reinforces that idea- that goodbyes are incredibly hard- but that saying it does not take away from the good thing you're leaving. Olie and Zowie still had their friend, even if they were not together in person.

This is such a good story to teach about goodbyes. Some children may not understand that goodbyes are necessary, but this would be an excellent tool to change their mindset, as well as including fun and engaging pictures. Inferring could be targeted by asking the client what they thought would happen as the story progressed- after it snowed, after their rocket crashed, and after they said goodbye to their friend.

Nothing good about it. The art is cheap (not at all the quality of other William Joyce work), the characters uninteresting and the story is dumb. So many better options.

This is an odd but nostalgic story for fans of the show Rolie Polie Olie. My daughter absolutely loved the colorful illustrations and the characters, and she kept pointing to them as we read.

My granddaughter is 6 months old and she sat so still while I read this story to her. She looks at the pictures. She is so quiet during story time.

Rolie visits a snowy land and participates in snowy activities in this wintery book. The story is okay, but not super exciting or engaging. The illustrations are colorful, bright, and enhance the story that is told.

My son has always loved Rolie Polie Oley. In this story, Rolie and Zowie build a snowman. They then take him to the North Pole, where he stays behind with Santa and all the other snowmen. The only thing I didn't like is the book calls Santa "Clanky Claus" (or something like that) which I found strange.

The thing I really like about this book is the font. For example, the y is an upside down l (or the other way if you prefer).

This book is about the Rolie’s who make a snowman on the one day that the suns light bulb goes out and he comes to life. The suns light bulb soon gets fixed so they take snowie to a different planet so he won’t melt. I think this book is fun for young students k-2nd and you could maybe you this for a science lesson about the sun and be sure to tell them that the sun isn’t like a light bulb and introduce the seasons. But i also think this book would be just fun to have in the classroom library.
