Mies van der Rohe Aquisgran, 1886-Chicago, 1969. Participant and director during the Bauhaus school period, his furniture designs intersect with funtionalist theories that searched for pieces with simplified lines without ornaments, turning the form of furniture into the key aesthetic feature, without adding decorative elements. Among his most characteristic designs stands out the chair Barcelona, created to furnish the German Pavillion in the 1929 Universal Exhibition, in which metallic tubes give way to steel forms. In 1938 he emigrated to the US, where he joined the Art Institute of Chicago.
