This was one of the first knitting books I ever bought—it was published in 1983. I'm now weeding through my library shelves and, despite this being a GREAT knitting book, I've outgrown it. If one is a newer knitter, this is a book to have, though. There are 66(!!!) pieces, all solid classics, some based on decades-old designs with a historical photo. Because this is a Vogue publication, the photography is beautiful and the writing is solid. There are stitch or color charts but no schematics. With just a few tweaks, most all of these designs would be wearable today.
