Small but solid pattern book that takes the knitter from simple mittens all the way through complex, color-worked gloves.
My only quibble is that for the very basic mitten and glove patterns at the beginning of the book there should be more pictures of the process, rather than just the finished product. It would be very helpful to see close-ups of creating the thumb gore, for example. As an "on-the-go" guide, I understand the editors are presumes to be tight for space, but there are several times where the same finished product picture is printed twice where a more detailed in-process picture would achieve more. I suspect that at the time this book was published (1999) that the photographs were done quite separately from the creation of the knitting patterns. Thank goodness for YouTube and Ravelry.
Knitting books are tricky. The patterns seem out of style so quickly -- books take longer to make than trends decide to stick around. At least with gloves, you're hard pressed to create patterns that might really go out of style.
While a lot of the mittens and gloves in this book aren't ones I'd probably ever wind up making, I have to say that I've probably made the first pattern in the book -- simple mittens -- about a million times. I have it memorized. It's a fantastic pattern, and indicative of most of the patterns in the book. Good construction, nice simple instructions.
