Lonely The world's leading travel guide publisher You can get by in Italy's major cities without speaking Italian, but just a few phrases will go a long way in making friends, inviting service with a smile, and ensuring a rich and rewarding travel experience - you could experience a delicious meal at a no-menu trattoria, find a hidden art gallery off the tourist trail, or discover the best cappuccino in Rome. Lonely Planet gets you to the heart of a place. Our job is to make amazing travel experiences happen. We visit the places we write about each and every edition. We never take freebies for positive coverage, so you can always rely on us to tell it like it is. OUR STORY A beat-up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure. In 1972 that’s all Tony and Maureen Wheeler needed for the trip of a lifetime – across Europe and Asia overland to Australia. It took several months, and at the end – broke but inspired – they sat at their kitchen table writing and stapling together their first travel guide, Across Asia on the Cheap. Within a week they’d sold 1500 copies and Lonely Planet was born. One hundred million guidebooks later, Lonely Planet is the world’s leading travel guide publisher with content to almost every destination on the planet.
What's about the length of your cell phone, half as thin, and full of info that will make your trip to "bella italia" infinitely better? This book! Unless you're loaded and can afford international data to keep Google Translate open on your phone... this is going to be your best friend as you eat, drink, play and sightsee.
I've read a bunch of these mini-guides and this one is my favorite. It is regularly updated (this one from 2018) and costs about as much as a cappuccino.
