Not only is this book a wonderful compilation of mid-18th century journal entries by John Bartram, Conrad Weiser, and Lewis Evans about their joint expedition to the Iroquois Nation, it also contains an eye-witness account of Niagra Falls by Peter Kalm. To have Lewis Evans's 1755 map tipped into this book was a special treat. It inspired me to spend endless hours putting the information in personal context while tracing the route on a modern map. This is a beautifully printed and bound publication with a handsome marbelized cover, leather spine, and heavy cream-colored pages. It is a real collector's item; worth reading, worth owning.
American botanist John Bartram established the first garden in the Colonies in 1728, corresponded with Europeans, thus introduced many species, and fathered William Bartram.
