Found this little gem at Goodwill and am so glad I picked it up. Being a Steinbeck enthusiast and native Californian (and having lived my whole life in the Bay Area), this book was especially meaningful to me because it focuses on the people who knew him while he lived in California. The insights into Steinbeck are so genuine and heartfelt. I never felt like the interviewees glamorized Steinbeck and it was refreshing to hear stories that showed him as a real person, with real flaws. I loved find ...more
