My son who adored fire trucks listened to this one repeatedly and admired the excellently drawn pictures of trucks and equipment. Yes, it has muppets as major characters, but everyone else and everything else is drawn concisely and clearly. This book takes fire-fighting seriously without frightening or being too light-hearted. It's matter-of-fact.
As a side note, it's old enough to have Mr. Hooper as friendly adult figure. :D

Very informative on firehouses and firemen and fighting fires. I was bored reading it as an adult, but I'm sure it's great for kids who have the attention span for lots of words.

When a fire inside an abandoned building warrants an urgent call to 911, Sesame Street's Bravest race into action. As our lovable characters: Grover, Big Bird and Ernie watch in fear and amazement, a firefighter reassures them everything will be okay once the fire is out. That leads the gang to visit the firehouse as the chief is there to give them a tour they won't forget.
Life around the firehouse is witnessed in great detail with beautiful illustrations showcasing firefighters and their equipment on alert and on the scene at major emergencies. From big city infernos, to fires in the countryside, and on the water, responding to ship fires in the harbor. The world of a 1980's firefighter is brought into sharp focus with easy to read text and eye-opening illustrations!
I love the action scenes when the bell rings at the firehouse and the firefighters along with their firehouse dog spring into action. Also given brief mention is the role of a female firefighter at the firehouse as well. If you look closely, you'll see her washing the fire truck. A great book for children and adults alike to learn about firefighting!

A great story about fire fighters and the equipment they use. But it's almost too much for the younger readers and older readers might not be as entertained by the sesame street characters. Very informative, though, and good advice for the little ones at the end regarding fires and being safe.

This book was chock-full of information. It might be a little ambitious for younger readers with small attention spans, but older children fascinated with all things fire station-related will be fascinated.
