I reviewed the first book and this the continuation of that couple's love story. Now, I still hate sequels/cliffhangers like nobody's business, but I like the story and my main complaint here is that this book could have been edited down to merge with the first one and I bet it would have been great with a tighter narrative. So, taking into consideration my admitted bias against sequels, this was an enjoyable entry.

I like the setup for this 'verse and the overarching storyline. It's giving me Planet Blue Balls vibes without the survivalist angle. Still getting hot aliens with horns and a deep and abiding love of oral, so I was happy, not gonna lie. Basically, I'm all in on this series - I think I've found a new fave.

I do not normally read series that follow a couple we’ve already had as main characters, so imagine my surprise when The Alien’s Mate turned out to be a continuation of Kate and Vaxa’an’s story.

In my review for The Alien's Prize, I stated that the story felt like it was all setup and no follow through. This book was the follow through. It had the plot and the conflict the previous one lacked. Together they make the other stronger, but they cannot stand on their own.

Kate and Vaxa’an’s relationship very much revolves around sex. What will happen as Kate recovers from giving birth? Or when she gets her period? Romance books tend to forget about the realities of life—and thank God for that—but this is something that really bothers me. The longest we’ve seen Vaxa’an abstain was a week, and he suffered. All I’m going to say: good luck Kate.

I am grateful this is the last book that features Kate and Vaxa’an as main characters. Neither are very memorable, but I do think their story was necessary to get to future ones. The stories of his ambassadors hold so much appeal, and I cannot wait to read them.

Not to be the man who says he goes to Hooters for the wings, but I truly come to most sci-fi romances for the world-building - it's usually interesting and digestible and doesn't make me consider physics. And yeah, there's aliens. Zoey Draven is an author I can trust to give me a well thought-out world and a empty-brain kind of romance (lovingly).

But this book. This book could have just been edited down and added to The Alien's Prize. Had it been so, the story of Kate and Laxa would have been much more satisfying while it set up the rest of the series (which I think is what this book is meant to do?).

This was definitely better then the first book, which by the way is the same couple as in this book. I appreciate the story around the planet they live on and I like the story with the hero’s brother and hope we get more about this in the upcoming books.
I also liked to see the hero adopting to show more emotions because in his culture it’s just nothing you do. I am also happy for the couples HFN, on the other hand the end didn’t really feel like one. Since the next books always have different mcs, that kind of annoyed me a little.
However overall I enjoyed reading this and I do want to continue with the series.

Gives a clear beginning for the rest of the series.

Kate and Vaxa have been married and are expecting their first child. They are also keeping secrets from one another which strains their marriage. There were some political drama moments and some violence, but most of the book seemed to be about them being terrible at communicating.
Kate improved more than Vaxa in that department IMO, though she still doesn’t share other issues with him. Vaxa is too rash for a supposedly level headed leader.
I like the setting and the culture in this book, but I wanted more closure on the communication stuff.

Spice: 5/5

Triggers: violence, references to SA

Quick, easy read. Liked the first book in the series a little more than this one, found myself flicking through The Alien's Mate in some parts. Continuation of the storyline/same couple as the first book - The Alien's Prize, so best read in order.

I've read a few books by this author now, and while they don't have an amazing storyline, I do find her alpha alien males strangely addictive to read......just not this one. Not sure if I will continue this series though.

I don’t think Kate/Vaxa’s story needed to be split into two parts but I read it because I wanted to continue with the series. Didn’t love Kate and felt this was pretty forgettable (I read this this morning along with the other books in the series today and at 9pm at night I can barely remember it).

Kate now knows contentment like nothing else.

As the mate to Prime Ruler Vaxa on Luxiria, Kate is loved, protected, feels deeply needed, and best of all, is carrying Vaxa’s child - a chance for the Luxirian race to thrive once again.

But there are rumblings among Vaxa’s warriors; rumblings about him taking a human as a mate and muddying the species’ gene pool. Vaxa - feeling complete for the first time in his life since finding his fated mate Kate - wants nothing more than to quell these poisonous voices with executions. But Vaxa knows he will need to face the dissenters in the fighting pit after they have challenged him.

Loved this one!

Vaxa and Kate’s relationship continues to evolve, and Kate continues to assert her place in her new world. Insisting she needs to feel useful, Vaxa assigns Kate to the archives to work, which is a job she loves, continuing even while pregnant.

But aside from those who are rebelling against the new ways, Vaxa has another mission: Clear all females from the fighting pits - the same pits from which Vaxa found Kate. Kate can’t imagine women having to endure what she did, even though her story came with a happy ending.

This is quite a nice little series!

If his luxiva passed into the next life... Vaxa'an knew that he would follow her without hesitation. There was no other option, not now. His fate was tied to hers, a truth that was both sobering and comforting...because he knew that he would never live another span without his mate by his side.

4.25 stars

I usually don't enjoy the "marriage-in-trouble" trope, but damn Zoey's writing and craftsmanship are just so phenomenal, I will read anything she writes. I really enjoyed this second installment of Kate and Vaxa's story as we got to see behind the curtain as they navigated their new and intergalactic relationship. Their trust and devotion in each other was tested multiple times, and I loved the drama as they fought their stubbornness and need to protect the other. Ultimately, this was a beautiful continuation of their love story as they grew closer together and fought to keep their love. I am excited to read the next book as we follow Vaxa's ambassadors🖤

Tropes: fated mates, he falls first, obsessed hero, fish-out-of-water heroine, navigating an alien mating, touch her and die, hurt/comfort, hidden secrets, size difference, breeding kink, special peen, found family, STEAMY🔥

this was just meh for me. it left off after The Alien's Prize. i feel like it should have just been attached to the first book. there's to much back and forth with keeping shit from each other and it just got tedious after a while.

and annoying.

i wasn't going to read the next installment but it's about vivaxan and i'd rather read about him and bek than this.

Okay, now this book definitely built on the previous one and had a great plot to it! Kate and Vaxa are navigating a new relationship, pregnancy and still learning each other. I love how normal the relationship seemed and the emotions that each of them felt during different parts of the book. This book was short and sweet, just like the first, but it feels like their whole story has been told now.

This is the second book of Kate and Vaxa’s story, which is a nice distraction from normal life for a few hours, especially if it is Zoey Draven. Her writing style is easy and inviting.

The Alien's Mate is the second book in the Warriors of Luxiria series. It is a quick read with lots of steam and spice. I don't mind reading these books, alpha, aliens, human, fated mates, insta love tropes, because they are sci-fi, and anything goes.

Re-reading this series again because apparently I didn't leave a review the first time.

Change makes the world go round

Things are starting to change for Lux and it's people. Some friends are lost and some new ones are made.
I'm happy I got to see the birth of the baby to its adoring family.
I don't think things will get easier in the next books but I think a lot of love will be found.

Definitely getting better as I dive into this new world. I like the details that the author is using to describe the environment. It helps with creating something "real" in a world of make believe.

3/3.5 ⭐️ still having a good time! do i think that the miscommunication was aggravating? i always do. was it understandable (to an extent)? also yes. this book is setting things up for the rest of the series & wraps things up a bit more neatly for vaxa & kate. i was glad to see them end the book on a very sweet & happy note, but i am also AMPED for the next book and how this unfolds.

Continuation of book one. It was okay but I want the other stories already and a lot of this was the two of them arguing and making up and then arguing about the same thing again. It never put their relationship into question though so it wasn't upsetting or anything.

Onwards...

This was the continuing story of Kate and Vaxa from the first installment of the series. We finally get our HEA at the end, but Zoey Draven has set up several characters for upcoming installments. I enjoyed reading this couples story, and look forward to who comes next.

More of Kate and Vaxa! Vaxa has to fight to keep his throne, and these two just love to keep secrets from each other. At least they're acknowledging it more here!

I loved this one! Especially with how Kate and Vaxa’an navigate with their new “problem” after the end of the previous book. I also liked the mystery-ish plot as well.

Excellent book!

I really enjoyed this book. The story really drew you in to a world of aliens that could be so human but not at the same time. The characters were well developed and the romance was one for the ages. I love how Vaxa and Kate fit so well without being perfect, it made the story more worthwhile. I can't wait to read more in this series.
