This was pretty fun! I like how Damian kinda tempers Bruce a bit, and I'm looking forward to seeing how these two will work together.

First issue is action packed with some great artwork so already expecting big things from this run!

I’m a happy Damian Wayne fan. Joshua Williamson really understands this character. He really lets the humanity of the character shine through in his interests and his struggle to balance regular kid life with vigilantism/fighting, which is all he’s ever known. Damian was also closer to Alfred than he ever was to Bruce, and I think that‘s reflected here.
I wish it wasn’t happening at the same time as the Gotham War, which makes Bruce trying to be a good dad to Damian in this issue feel particularly out of place with his characterization in the last Batman issue.

to get my brain in order,
everything that just happened with damian with the lazarus tournament and then with mother soul taking over his brain.
joker took their mansion and bat cave - bruce healing from zur but the batfamily are still iffy. damian lives with batman now.
bruce decides he’s gonna heal from zur and start to make new appearances as bruce.

OH MY LORD THEY ARE THE CUTEST THINGS. i’m very normal and totally not super duper hyped about damian having his own comic with batman as robin and AHH!!

I wasn't sure if I would like this one up or not but I ultimately chose to pick it up anyway and I am glad I did. I hated the last Batman and Robin series I tried to read during the New 52 era and this fixes all of the complaints I had there.

Now before I get into anything writing related I want to take a moment and address the artwork. This art is absolutely gorgeous and uses some of the most dynamic lighting techniques I have seen in a comic. In many panels where movement is implied there is also a subtle but effective motion blur. There is also some excellent visual storytelling that is always a joy to see. The art massively elevates the experience of reading the already enjoyable writing.

One major complaint I had about DC's New 52 series was how Bruce Wayne and especially Damian Wayne were characterized, and it lead me to hate Damian Wayne, perhaps not entirely fairly, for years to come. Damian was showing all the signs of a serial killer in the making, completely unlikeable and just wanting to inflict pain and control, and Bruce was not making any attempts at being a better parent or taking proper accountability for his actions.

Thankfully here both characters here are handled in a much better manner. Bruce Wayne is making attempts at being a better parent even if he doesn't fully know what he is doing, and Damian feels flawed, but flawed like any kid, and isn't displaying serial killer tendencies anymore.

Bruce Wayne is wanting to give his son a better life after realizing he has never experienced a remotely normal childhood and feels a subtle guilt that he hasn't parented his son better, having prioritized his career as Batman. As a result he is moving in with Damian and trying to enroll him into a traditional school.

Damian doesn't fully understand this and believes he is above going to a traditional school, but doesn't understand it is more for his social development than his intellectual development. He sees this as counter productive and getting in the way of his work as Robin.

This book does an amazing job to begin true character development and that's great. I will definitely stick with this one.

Damn those visuals are slick. Maybe too slick in a few spots, but I'm not complaining. Gorgeous art and Williamson's storytelling - yes please!

I love the humanizing of Damian and finally having a writer who can continue the growth we've seen. Damian's closeness to Alfred and the burden of his guilt at Alfred's death finally show through in positive ways, and we get to glimpse Damian having a "normal" kid hobby like we did when he was reading manga on death island. The moments between Bruce and Damian are sweet and cute and true.

I really wish the whole Cat/Bat war wasn't mentioned. Batman/Zur is being such an ass in that event that it's difficult to reconcile what we're seeing here. Even more so if Bruce's psyche is fracturing and we're being asked to see Bruce as a good dad here. The two just don't go together. We could entirely enjoy this title without having the timing explicitly explained to us.

Otherwise, the plot doesn't quite exist yet. We started off with action and get hints of a mystery, but this issue wants to establish the tone and relationship, and it succeeds.

It was alright. IMO not a strong first issue. As per usual DiMeo's art looked good. Bruce looked a little odd here and there, but it's valid to put your own take on the character, for sure.

Damian has a sort of ... oddly childish demeanor? Competing with his father in a like: how many goons can you take down kind of way that feels really odd for Damian. Like that doesn't really match up with how he feels. Or his oddly flat driven personality to just fighting crime and no... nothing else.

I like when Williamson writes Superman, and I'm not really enjoying his take on the batfam or any of the other times I've seen him writing Bruce.

Bruce being this awkward try hard dad feels very strange, especially given his like full on psychosis vibe in the last issue of the main Batman run.

Through my recent Batman comics reading journey I've mostly read the older stuff. This being a new one is very obvious in its style. On the one hand, I like the colours, there's lots of purples, blues, bit of oranges. Not so sure about the art style itself tho bc on the other hand it also has high contrasts and a certain smoothness to it through the style and digital colouring that I don't like. It's missing texture. I feel like if you look at it for too long you might get bored with it.
I have not encountered this artist's other work before, apparently his art is beloved. It might just not be my taste.
Also Damian is definitly older than the versions I've encountered so far, I miss a bit of his brattiness. Also speaking of Damian and colours...why is he white-washed again?

It felt to me like an adaptation of an animated series and I really liked this lighter tone, both in story and art. It provided dramatic splash pages and I found myself turning the pages quickly, which is a good sign. Sometimes I do lose the will to keep reading  comic books, which is crazy considering how short they can be these days. I liked seeing Bruce and Damien act like father and son, even though I am not aware of the recent history between them, which was intriguingly alluded to.

I have so much goodwill towards Dawn of DC titles right thanks to such enjoyable reading experiences like this.

This was just an awesome comic series starter to Batman & Robin , live the artwork n vibe this comic gives off , & I’m glad to see Robin still in comics since DC & directors thought for some reason that he was not important to be in any movies or tv series( maybe he was in some kids shows ) other than Tim Burton’s Batman, show some love for Robin and read this. Also loved Robin’s car in this issue.

Thank you for existing. See this is the kind of thing I was expecting from Dawn of Dc, not that whole gotham war cringefest. The art is truly stunning and even though not a lot happened, I am pleased with the direction this taking. Also Damian remembering how Alfred made tea and teaching Bruce is just perfection.

rating all the volumes up until #23 here. it was such an engaging story honestly, i loved the artstyle and how the dialogue matches with what is being protrayed!! i loved how the characters interact and the whole theme of trust and being trusted (but not really showing it), wish there was more flatline and damian parts!! and wish damian's past was established in this series but thats fine...

The color schemes and art style are my favorites! I also live the design of Batman/Bruce and Robin/Damian! Rugged but clean. White Rabbit’s kinda sexy too!

And to the creator/illustrator, I noticed that Naruto manga in Damian’s room! (Man, I’m such a geek lol)

I enjoyed that this was Damian, although missing some of his arrogance. Was just getting into it when it finished.
