A long time ago, in a land far, far away (Milwaukee , WI , St. Luke's Hospital), Chris Marie Green (also writing as Crystal Green) joined the world. While moving to Southern California, Kentucky , then back to California , she amused herself by writing poetry and short stories featuring the ultimate Alpha males--Superman and Indiana Jones. Later, after graduating with a B.A. in English from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo , Chris decided to become a professional writer.
While she wrote, Chris worked as an eighth-grade teacher, but resigned in 2002 to pursue writing full time. Her critique partners, Sheri WhiteFeather and Judy Duarte are instrumental in her endeavors. Without these talented authors, writing would be a lonely road.
Chris is pumped about her Vampire Babylon series for Ace, which is best described as "noir fantasy-mysteries" featuring a vamp hunter. The first five books, NIGHT RISING, MIDNIGHT REIGN, BREAK OF DAWN (which compose the first trilogy), plus A DROP OF RED and THE PATH OF RAZORS (the first two books in the second trilogy) have already been released. The sixth, DEEP IN THE WOODS, will be on shelves on March 2, 2010. A Vampire Babylon-related novella was released in an anthology entitled FIRST BLOOD. (Note: The Vampire Babylon series uses trilogy arcs to tell one basic story, much like the way JK Rowling used seven books that didn’t solve every plot thread book-by-book to tell Harry Potter’s story. While each individual novel focuses on a central mystery that’s solved by the end, the three books together build character and mythology arcs/mysteries until everything culminates in the third book. Each trilogy repeats this pattern.)
Chris is also writes Silhouette Special Editions ("home and hearth" tales of redemption and community) and Harlequin Blazes (steamy fantasies), and whenever she can, she travels, including backpacking trips in Europe and road trips in America . She also enjoys yoga, hiking, and way too much movie-watching.
I enjoyed reading The Huntress with such a strong but complicated female lead character. The story was well written and enhanced by the flashback chapters which gave background and a little insight into Camille. The amount of action and suspense throughout the book was great, with added sexual tension between Camille and Sarge really brought another dimension to the vampire hunting story line. Definitely looking forward to more books by Chris Marie Green.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fast paced and action packed scenes - What more could you want?
I really enjoyed this book. It's beautifully written, with a plot that chills your bones as Camille chases down her boyfriend, Griffin, who was taken from her by female vampires. Camille finds unwanted help with Sarge, a ex-military Camando that believes a good vamp is a dead vamp. Action and awareness are helping Camille and Sarge work together to find Griff before it's too late.
Very good read especially if you like vampire books.
A new twist on vampire books that held my attention through the whole read. Good to see a smart ,strong female main character. Thurrowly enjoyed this book.
Absolutely enthralling! I could not put this book down- so much back and forth, drama, angst, drama, wtf moments. Thoroughly entertaining the entire read -definitely a must read!
Vampires are not something I gravitate towards, however if a specific author is writing a story then I am intrigued. I am definitely happy I read this exciting non stop thrill ride with a fabulous storyline and deep characters. I found myself pulling for the least likely of people and hoping for the demise of others. The author was careful in threading tidbits of info throughout the book and her research was detailed. Not every vampire has glittery skin and a sexy smile. Our story surrounds Camille who has decided to make her dissertation about vampire folklore, specifically five female vampires in Romania feasting on males once a year. Taking her boyfriend, Griffin, along for a study vacation changes her world forever. Griffin becomes a feedbag for The Girls. The Huntress is Camille's story of finding Griffin and her inner tough girl. I was given an early release copy for my honest and unbiased review.
This book keeps you on a roller coaster of emotions. Camille Howard is an heiress whose parents were murdered when she was young.....she discovered their bodies....the killer was not arrested. She has spent a lot of her time to time avoiding the paparazzi....she could avoid them for awhile until she was spotted again then she would move on....this led her to an art gallery and to a man, Griffin, who stole her heart and helped her find love...then she was spotted again....so this time they moved on to Romania, where she could write her dissertation on Vampires....not realizing the myth was true and her world would once again be turned upside down....finding help in the unlikely places....would she find Griff before the vampires killed him? Would she like what she finds when she does? You will have to read to find out.
I normally wouldn't get this book on my own to read; it and another were signed and sent to me by the author herself as a random prize. I was surprised to find I liked it, though. It's a quick, easy read, and the story is unlike anything else I've read in the genre -- vampire lore with a touch of science fiction and character arcs breaking the usual convention with the Happy For Now instead of the Happily Ever After of romance.
I actually look forward to reading the second book the author sent me.
