From the popular designer Jil Eaton comes this delectable collection of easy-to-make and stylish knitwear. Designs feature a quirky but fashionable style, with patterns for children, teens, and adults. Popular projects, such as the cashmere crème sweater, elf cap, and rainy-day pullover for dogs, are accompanied by step-by-step instructions that are ideal for beginners and those wanting to further develop their knitting skills. Sketches and color photographs in outdoor and in-studio locations brighten every page and help knitters visualize the final product. Photos, yarn suggestions, and gauge instructions are offered for every design.
This would be a great book for beginning knitters. The introduction to materials and techniques, layout, schematics and instructions with plentiful photos make for success. The projects themselves are a range of simple accessories and even a couple boxy sweaters. Though I am an experienced knitter and didn't find anything I wanted to work on, I enjoyed reading through this book.
When glancing at the book cover one cannot help but look at the darling little child wearing the knitted christmas tree hat and immediately want to knit such a hat. I picked up this book because that hat looked so comical I immediately had visions of knitting it. Unfortunately, after perusing the rest of the book's content I only found three other patterns that I would want to try. This book is kind of in the middle as far as knitting books, not one of those books with totally awesome patterns, but not a knitting book to be shunned.
Simple, yes. Chic, not quite. A decent book for new knitters - a variety of simple patterns for women, men, children and dogs. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a single pattern I wanted to make.
