This book was written in 1959, the year I was born. It predates Silent Spring by Rachel Carson and gives a history of Organic Farming that goes back to the beginning of the century. It is phyically a huge book and is comprehensive and endlessly fascinating.

This book formed my gardening self. So much of what I believe is The True Way can be found here I feel like a zealot. Perhaps I am.

Shelves: own-it, reference
I have the 1978 hardback version and have found it to a valuable part of our reference library. I've never been disappointed when using this book to search for answers.

A reprint of the 1959 original, this book is just a treasure. I pick it up at least once a week during the growing season.
