Giles Lytton Strachey was a British writer and critic. He is best known for establishing a new form of biography in which psychological insight and sympathy are combined with irreverence and wit. His 1921 biography Queen Victoria was awarded the James Tait Black Memorial Prize.

Detailed and densely packed pieces about famous people, places and things. My favourites were the one describing his family home Lancaster Gate and the one about Boswell...for who I have affection. Princess de Lieven who was a fictional character in so many Barbara Cartland novels was a real person...who knew?
