Rachael Boast’s first collection, Sidereal, was one of the most highly regarded debuts of recent years, winning the Forward Prize for Best First Collection and the Seamus Heaney Centre for Poetry Prize. Her second, Pilgrim's Flower, richly confirms and dramatically extends that talent – but where Sidereal’s gaze was often firmly fixed on the heavens, Boast’s focus here has ...more

Shelves: poetry
I just discovered Boast on a recent trip to England. Never heard of her here in the USA. I am about half way through her two books, the other one being Sidereal which i do not see here on GR.

I recommend you track down a copy of either one and give it a try. I think you'll be pleased.

I really enjoyed quite a few poems in this collection, some of them immensely so. However, none of them quite hit home to the point of being overly memorable. I have revisited some of the ones I marked as having enjoyed, and little recollection of having read them before. The poems have a tendency to bring ideas and emotions to mind, and do a wonderful job of taking me to associations similar to the ideas in the poems, but none were stirring. A solid collection.

Didn't enjoy it as much as Sidereal (not as much physics, I guess), but left me wanting to know more about Chatterton
